It's about how most people don't understand money, the stock market, financial transactions or institutions. Good movie.. and as pointed out good cast..
I watched it last night, I thought it was very entertaining and interesting. Everything just gelled, and I thought Christian Bale's performance was especially outstanding. He's a good actor anyway, but he really stood out in this movie.

I'd have to rewatch The Big Short because there are things I definitely missed, but it's a movie I wouldn't mind rewatching at all.

Rage (2021) - No, this is not Nic Cage's Rage, this is someone else's rage. :tearsofjoy:

But seriously, this quiet and subdued adult drama is so tense I have yet to watch the last 20 minutes, don't know if I can take it! The movie gets a fairly poor rating on IMDb from the 5 people who have actually seen it, I guess I'll have to sit through to the finish to see if the ending is the reason why. Otherwise I think it's just an extraordinarily tense movie, with everything that's going on in it I'm not sure the ending even can ruin it. We shall see.

You need to be very very careful about watching all these movies!! Movies about systematic corruption about finance, food, medicine, agriculture, petrochemical industry, defense industrial complex need to be consumed with long recess periods for your mind and soul!!
And many of these movies can sneak up on you!!
If you watch Michael Clayton, Manchurian Candidate, Big Short, Dopesick, Super Size Me and Erin Brockovich in the same month you have to lock your knife drawer, gun cabinet and not walk near a cliff or train tracks!!

Most of those movies I've seen, but thankfully I left enough time in-between to remain somewhat sane. Though, right now I've been watching a lot of documentaries about the 2008 financial crisis so I can understand The Big Short and Margin Call better, I better stay away from those sharp objects and cliffs still! :D

Five Nights At Freddy's (2023) odd sort of movie, a little bit of everything which seemed to dilute the end result. The animatronics were better than the actors ! The best part about it was probably the setting itself with the run down building, and the special effects. It was also way too long for the lightweight material. A pretty mundane horror/thriller/comedy based on a video game which was no surprise.

Husbands and Wives (1992) one of Woody Allen's best movies post 1990. A heavy dose of neurotic, intellectual New Yorker's. More drama than comedy and very well acted especially by Mia Farrow, Judy Davis and Sydney Pollack Also interesting seeing Liam Neeson playing a character almost the exact opposite of his more recent movies and doing it very well. Basically a darker look at relationships, not a feel good movie. Also well written by Allen and with one of his more restrained performances.

Godzilla (1998) big budget Hollywood hokum. Apart from some good special effects it was pretty dull Take out Jean Reno as a French Secret Service Agent and it gets even duller. Silly and overlong but it started the rehash of Godzilla movies that have been hanging around ever since. Mediocre.

Alien Romulus (2024) Lacked originality. Borrowed so much from the previous Alien movies.Visually good but nowhere near the quality of the first three Alien movies although not as bad as Covenant or Resurrection. A disappointment but still relatively entertaining.

Rewatched Chappaquiddick (2017) - All politics aside (heh, hard to do when discussing a movie about one of the Kennedys), I would strongly recommend watching a few documentaries about the real Chappaquiddick incident beforehand, where there's a Kennedy conspiracy theories are sure to follow. Lots and lots of them! And this movie managed to cram just about all of them in, but the truth is, even to this day it's hard to separate fact from fiction because the real investigation was such a cloaked in secrecy clusterfuck. But I think it's still a good mystery movie if nothing else, the only part that bugged me was when the character of Kennedy was consulting with all his advisors, at that point the dialogue and problem solving became rather buffoonish and didn't fit the serious tone of the rest of the film. But otherwise I think Chappaquiddick is worth a looky, but like I said, watch a few documentaries first because then it will be a lot easier to follow.

I can tell you 2 movies not to watch!!

Longing.
.starring Richard Gere..he plays an ultra rich guy who is told by an ex girlfriend that he had a son @18 years ago and he died..Gere goes for the funeral and goes on a treasure hunt about facts about his unknown offspring. It is good for @5 minutes.
Blink Twice
Channing Tatum plays an ultra rich guy who has an island, he has some special drug potion that he gives to men and mostly women and then does horrible things that they can't remember because of the drugs, Geena Davis plays his personal assistant and since I didn't see new Beatljuice yet I hope she gets in a decent movie.. This was not it!!
Rebel Ridge
It's surprisingly good, super, super tired story about unassuming, ex military badass who crosses paths with corrupt, racist, scumbag, small town Sheriff played by Don Johnson.. You have seen same movie and TV show dozens of times, but it's still pretty fun to watch.

Watched a couple of mom movies both good,
The Good Mother
Starring Hillary Swank, she plays a great role, writer at a newspaper, there are a bunch of references to many current conditions and each is placed in the story thoughtfully. So you have alcohol use, misuse, drug abuse, including fentanyl , paper struggling to stay afloat in printed form. Family dynamics and dysfunction, murder and lots of mystery. Worth your time. Director is excellent and movie gives off lots of feelings and vibe through the set-up and photography, music is used really well in the film.
Mothers Instinct
tons of people including Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain, Josh Charles.. Set in late 50s, early 60s, the costumes, set and period habits like everyone smoking cigarettes is done well. Movie from start to finish, dialogue, music and direction are Alfred Hitchcock clone like, so if you like Hitchcock films this is good. Lots of twists.

Speak No Evil
Is terrible, James McAvoy does a good job playing a Jack Nicholson , Shining type creepy character, all the actors in the movie are good, the writing is bad, start to finish. Strange thing that I have not seen before, 2 actors who were on the series Halt and Catch Fire play husband and wife and if you watched the series, sort of visually disruptive because you sort of remember them...
