the 2011 contador still had the shade of the 2009 invulnerability, when being the best gc rider both at climbing and timetrialing. as of today, quintana cannot be even proclaimed unequivocally strongest climber. he has the only script of winning any grand tour - dominating in the mountains. let him win the tour in a dominant climbing fashion for a start, before considering a giro-tour double.

Quintana did not even beat Majka, Purito and Aru at the 2015 Vuelta after a full Tour peak.
Lol.

Zero chance?
Sounds more like disliking somebody.

The chances are dependent on other things, but zero is very silly.

Did you even watch the stage to Andorra?

Yes, and then I watched stage 15, a proper long uphill test and he arrived right on time with eventual winner Aru. I guess he must have been magically cured, or maybe his endurance is terrible and he doesn't do very well when it is hard all day or crosswinds.

51 ?? You exaggerate so much haha ! He is 58
no he's 51, more like 50 towards the end of a grand tour. he usually starts a grand tour around 52/53. so he's obviously very vulnerable but with a lot of luck and thus no sickness he can win almost anything

He genuinely was ill that day and the day after when he even was dropped on the flat. You can probably find interviews etc. explaining he was close to pulling out, but he got through.

He wasn't spectacular by no means in that Vuelta, but don't try to twist the facts.

YES

"En la primera parte del calendario estaré en la Vuelta Valencia, Abu Dabi y Tirreno-Adriático", aseguró Quintana.

El ciclista del Movistar Team agregó que "la decisión final que tomamos es hacer Giro y Tour de Francia", sobre las tres grandes del ciclismo mundial.

I hope for Nairo he approaches this very well. He can't win the Giro when he's not close too 100%. He needs at least some flashes of his peak in some important stages. Especially with the strong competition.

I think his chance to win the Tour is close to zero. Even a Contador in peak shape (2011) couldn't win both. For sure he was close, but not close enough. If he goes to the Giro at almost 100%, he can't win the Tour for sure. But if he goes to the Giro at 85%, the chance arises he's not able to win La Maglia Rosa in the 3rd week. It means he's relatively fresher for Le Tour, but he has still ridden a tough GT. So it doesn't chance anything for le Tour.

Good news.
I believe the Tour should be the race for the double.
Quintana's big double or Froome's lesser one, since he'll be targeting Vuelta after the Tour.
And that's the way Quintana should approach to the challenge. Make the Tour race for the double. And if you think that kind of approach could turn out to be a burden, I assure you they both will be carrying it. It's just a matter of who of the two will manage to topple it on the other one.

I really think this is a mistake from Quintana. The TDF course this year has very, very little TT km for him to worry about, I understand that he was stronger in the Vuelta AFTER the Tour last year, but that doesn't mean he can go into the Giro, race that for three weeks, then come out of it stronger for the Tour. The Tour profile isn't 100% perfect for him, but it is certainly not against him, I don't find the attempt strange, I find the timing of it strange.
