regarding Nairo's schedule this year.
How many races against Froome, Contador, Nibali or Wiggins before Giro?
How about against Horner, Cadel, Uran? I'm wondering where the preview to the 2015 showdown will be. Paris-Nice? Dauphine? Tour de Suisse?

Quintana: Vuelta a Murcia, Clásica de Almería, Roma Maxima, Tirreno-Adriático, the Volta a Catalunya, Vuelta a Asturias, Giro.

Froome: Oman, Tirreno-Adriatico, Volta a Catalunya, Romandie, Dauphine, Tour.

Contador: Volta ao Algarve, Tirreno-Adriatico, Volta a Catalunya, Vuelta al País Vasco, Dauphiné, Tour.

Nibali: Tour de San Luis, Tour of Oman, Paris-Nice, Milan-San Remo, Critérium International, the Ardennes classics, Tour de Romandie, Dauphiné, Tour.

Wiggins: Couldn't find a definite schedule, but Paris-Roubaix and California are 2 races that have been named as his targets before the Tour.

Evans: Méditerranéen, Haut Var, Strade Bianche, Tirreno-Adriatico, Giro.

Horner: Mallorca Challenge, Giro, Vuelta, not sure on the rest. But I would assume one race he'll do will be Tirreno.

Uran: Mallorca, Oman, Tirreno-Adriatico, Catalunya, Giro

2013 Tirreno Adriatico: 1 Nibali 2 Froome 3 Contador.
Looks like this will be the race this year then. March 12th starts, with 25% Wall of Guardiagrele climb included. 1 TTT, 1 TT.

Catalunya is going to be fun.

Horner vs. Quintana vs. Froome vs. Purito vs. Contador. We only need Nibali, then we have the six best climbers in one race. :D

I think Nibali wants to go to Tirreno Adriatico, he is the defending champion.
Vino wants him in France... We know Purito won't be there, though.

So those are the two races to watch then, besides the classics, although I don't think Nairo is targeting any :(

Sure, but theres still a chance, he finds some better legs this year.

He's in his mid thirties and dropped form in a big way for a long time unless it was due to health issues. For a few years he was probably one of the best mountain domestiques. Can't see him getting back to that level but some improvement would be good.

the guy is 35 now. that isn't old anymore and when he was strong he was 30-33, definitely not old in current cycling. unless he had a serious injury I don't understand why he wouldn't come back

True, but why do you use my quote, since i didn't even mention his age. On contrary, i said i can't see why he shouldn't be a top domestique for Nairo in may.

he said the complete opossitye as well. that he wants to do the giro but sponsor wanted him to do the tour and sponsor pays. in the end quintana wanted to do 2 gt's. he already wanted last year but then unzue dictated

I have no idea what Nairo truly wanted to do, and neither do you. But I'm not going to pretend like I do know. Maybe at one point he wanted to do the Giro but since then his mind has changed and now would have preferred to do the Tour.

Based on what he has said most recently, the Tour is the race he would have preferred to ride.

35-36 is still a good age in modern cycling. Not in terms of winning stages, but in terms of GC, classics and domestique duties.

A lot of riders are better in their early-mid 30s than in their mid-late 20s.

Okay but how many of them are excellent mountain domestiques ? Not many. Maybe five or less.

As you guys are having nice disscusion i will add my two cents...
I dont think Nairo really needs great mountain domestique. If he is gonna get maglia rosa e.g.in stages 17,18 etc he probably doesnt need one.Of course he has to ride clever, attacking and grabbing MR in first week wont be the right move for him (even tho we would like to see it):D

Of course the more mountain domestique he is gonna have, the better its going to be for him.

I agree.
He is kind of a climber, and has already shown, that can do just fine on his own.

he needs them very much to make the race as hard as possib;e. no mountainstage can be hard enough for him. so if they use a strong train for first few climbs. others will suffer way more. especially over 3 weeks

yes except quintana cna also attack on first mountain and destroy an entire field. see route du sud. however a strong team is always better. even just to pave hard on first climb or to sit in wheels and counter others behind quintana

True,it would be a lot better.Even tho I meant that we dont have to worry about him loosing-with good legs, which is his standard so Im not worried.... he is my(imo even yours and others) favourite no1 even without good m.domestiques.

The scenario of a good pace on first few climbs would be ideal for him. I believe he can do minutes of damage on his opponents in this case.
imo the most important for him is to have good domestiques to catch attacks from distance (i mean 10+ km form the finish),un/fortunately in current peloton its very rare:eek:

Porte and Horner.

They are the only ones with a realistic chance to take time on him. I think Rodriguez might finish 2nd, but he won't take time in mountains nor TTs on Nairo.
