he is not strong enough to attack froome,if he was today was the day to do it with froome having to catch the attacks by himself

Everyone gave it a go today bar him.

Even the yellow jersey attacked and all Quintana did was follow.

Baffling. Just baffling.

Quintana will be encouraged by Froome not slaying the peloton, including himself, at the first MTF. He's only about half a minute back. He's cleverly opting for a conservative strategy initially, with attacks coming towards the end of the Tour when his advantage will be greatest.

With the exception of Froome's daredevil descent, everything is proceeding according to plan thus far

Fans whose interest is more an engrossing, attack riddled duel in the mountains rather than Quintana winning the Tour will of course be forgiven for their remarks.

Oh, please. He could follow Froome and was clearly one of the strongest in the day.

The moment pretty much every outsider had attacked, there were on more excuses for him to not try himself.

This is all going perfectly for Quintana lol Froome chasing, puffing and wasting energy Quintana doing *** all

Quintana is going be superior in 3rd week, no point wasting any energy today or any other days before last week mountain.

For me, boring yes, tactically? superb

Such a coward. Simply too scared of Froome in the first week. Now he has no idea if he could have dropped Froome today

Exactly. A common ailment on this forum is the conflation of what's great to watch for us with what's clever for a rider to do. Quintana doesn't do crowd pleasing and ineffectual attacks. He only wants to win.

But come the end we'll be fed the same old same old about how he was the strongest and is the moral winner of the race.

If Quintana doesn't blow Froome away in week 3 he only has himself to blame. No more of this 'he was the strongest in the mountains' ect. It's rubbish, the Tour is a 3 week race and you take time when you can.

Deep inside we all know he won't win the Tour because even if he wakes up on the third week (and that only means the final two mountain stages) he'll be down too much time on GC to recover due to this mentality. It's a stupid and unnecessary gamble which won't pay off as we well know. Just like last year. Just like in 2013.

I know that huge wave of criticism is incoming but...
This was smart by Nairo. I dont like(actually almost hate) this racing but I think that to not show your cards until Ventoux is a very good decision.
Good job little man

so in your mind he didnt attack even tho he could because? what? he loves froome so much?

or is it just simple fact that following froome was exactly his limit?

which one do you think is more plausible?

See my post above. I think he didn't attack because he is gambling and his is natural M.O to ride in a conservative way until the very final stages, where in his mind he's thinks he can make up for the time lost with fewer risks of bonking. It's a gamble he should know won't pay off, or, at least, that he should not be inclined to follow as a first resort.

Last year he was more than 3 minutes down about this point. Now 23 seconds if I'm not mistaken. He is doing tactically very well compared to the previous 2 times. He knows he can't win the tour in the first week, but he definitely could've lost it.

if its a gamble how do you know it wont pay off? - the nature of gamble is that we dont know how it ends
