The first professional cyclist from Norway, Knut Knudsen, has on several occasions said you have to be «preparert» to race your best. This could translate into «prepared» in English, but it could also mean the use of chemical substances.

Petter Northug, a cross country ski star from Norway, said he needed «påfyll av høydetrening» before the 2010 Olympics. This translates into «an infusion of altitude traning».

Oh, I love that one.

"An infusion of altitude training", probably the best way to explain away athlete biological passport fluctuations.

*** WADA detects fluctuating blood values for ATHLETE X and rings them up ***
WADA: "Hey, you're blood values are fluctuating. Care to explain?"
ATHLETE X: "Yes, I've had an infusion of altitude training"
*** WADA puts ALTITUDE TRAINING in Bayesian ABP network and sees posterior probability of doping drop ***
WADA: "Okay, you're clear"

Can you provide a link for this one? I seem to have missed it and I already have to laugh about it without context.

It's a bit obscure, I'll admit. During the 2009 TDF, Lance Armstrong was often posting videos of him hanging out with his celebrity friends who kept dropping by. Bono, Ben Stiller and Robin Williams. There was a video of Robin Williams saying to Lance, after looking at his compression socks, that he was "turning into an old Jew". I remember Lance going on about his compression socks a lot that year, during the Giro especially in his build-up to the TDF. It was basically his version of what we now know as 'marginal gains'. Those compression socks helped Lance to 3rd place at 38 years of age and after 4 years away from the sport.

That's just inaccurate. Everyone knows Norwegians never dope. Northug knows that he would forever be scolded if he took drugs and was caught.

It's not part of the Norwegian culture. ;)
