Ventoso wins the sprint from that group, in a result as unexpected as the results of the investigation into bears' preferred places for defecation.

Not true, Ventoso jumped from the group and got slightly clear from the peloton, Pacheco 2nd, Koldo Fernandez 3rd

Just meaning that Ventoso being the fastest of the three was not exactly surprising. Movistar would never pull the péloton with Ventoso off the front, as of course they'd trust him to outsprint Mancebo and Pacheco (though Pacheco isn't slow).

why didn't gilbert try following that boonen attack instead

Because he couldn't. Look at Gilbert he isn't gaining much time either. Boonen immediately gained 40 seconds when he attacked...

He wasn't near the front, I'm sure he could follow the group that chased boonen if he was at the right place.

Yes, but my point is that Euskatel chased and caught them, simply Ventoso was strong enough to have another go

As long as they keep putting out those appalling national champions' jerseys I will root against them in the nationals.

I used to love the Caisse d'Epargne Spanish kits, but the Movistar ones are chronic.
