Let's hear it for Saturday! Though it's only the Raiders - Saturday, with only a week's practice to prepare as a HC , comes in & beats the Raiders on the road. And what a call he made at the last minute starting Ryan over Ehlinger. Irsay gave the game ball to Saturday & deflecting the attention, he immediately gave game balls to every player. He's got great locker room presence & you get a sense of respect from every player in that locker room. Let's see how the rest of the season goes & whether or not he can turn the team around. There's still a lot of football to be played.

Very exciting Bills - Vikings game. Probably one of the most exciting 4th quarters I've seen in decades. Guys playing their heart out & earning those millions. The Bills should have won - that's on Allen for throwing that stupid pick & letting the team down. He was in the driver's seat to punch in a TD in the closing minutes of the OT only to blow it. The ball wasn't tipped or deflected. He can't be making those kinds of mistakes if he wants to be an elite QB in the league.
Allen blamed himself. As for Saturday, he seems to be a high;y popular character. Everyone seems to love him including ex players and media trolls !

You just knew that the Eagles would have an unlikely loss sooner or later but the Commanders played well. Heinicke was solid apart from the two interceptions. Definitely looks better than Wentz. That catch and fumble late in the game was costly for the Eagles. Robinson playing well at RB for the Commanders. Not bad for a guy that was shot in the knee not so long ago and who's career was in doubt !

The OU for this Sunday's Browns Bills game is 4

as in 4 FEET OF SNOW

Feet of snow to bury Buffalo as potentially historic lake-effect event looms
A winter storm watch has been issued for parts of western New York ahead of a long-duration lake-effect snow event that could produce potentially record-setting amounts of 3 to 6 feet.
By Renee Duff, AccuWeather meteorologist

AccuWeather meteorologists say the fiercest lake-effect snow event yet this season — and potentially in years — will ramp up downwind of the Great Lakes late this week and bury some locations with feet of snow, grind travel to a halt and potentially stamp new marks in the weather history books.

That will be awesome! REAL football. None of this sissy indoor air-conditioned dome football. :innocent:

Thursday night's game in Green Bay will be cold. About 25 degrees, and breezy.

The rest of the games will just be cold, with some wind. At least outside of course. ;)

TREND WATCH
N.F.L. Teams Have Rediscovered Their Running Backs This Season
The ground game took a back seat as passing innovations grabbed hold of N.F.L. teams in the past decade. Running backs are seeing a resurgence this season.

By Mike Tanier

Nov. 16, 2022, 12:01 a.m. ET

N.F.L. offenses used to be pass-happy. They later became pass-giddy and eventually pass-post-dental-surgery-loopy.
After decades of ever-increasing neglect, however, the running game is finally making a comeback.
Through Week 10, N.F.L. teams average 121.8 rushing yards per game, the highest figure since 1987. Teams also average 4.5 yards per rush, the highest rate in history.
Teams rush 26.8 times per game, a rate that has been relatively steady for many years, but pass attempts have declined to 33.7 per game, the lowest figure since 2010. That means the league’s run-to-pass ratio has increased slightly over the last two years, from 41.9 percent in 2020 to 42.1 in 2021 to 42.7 this year.
The change may not be dramatic, but teams are running more frequently and enjoying more success as a result in 2022, bucking a trend toward increased passing that began when the league adopted pass friendly rule changes in 1978.

The revitalization of the running game is most noticeable at the top of the league standings. The Philadelphia Eagles (8-1), with an option-heavy offense, average 142.7 rushing yards per game. The Baltimore Ravens (6-3) average 168.1 rushing yards per game thanks to quarterback Lamar Jackson’s dual-threat capabilities. The Tennessee Titans (7-2), averaging 133.4 rushing yards per game, hop into a wagon most weeks and let Derrick Henry drag them to victory.
The Giants (7-2; 164.8 rushing yards per game) would practically be a volleyball team without Saquon Barkley at tailback. The Minnesota Vikings (8-1) average a modest 107 rushing yards per game, but they often line up with a halfback AND a fullback, the way the founding fathers intended.
To be clear, none of the teams above — division leaders save for the second-place Giants — have high rushing totals simply because they are protecting late leads. Instead, they feature offenses that are “balanced” or “establish the run” in ways that coaches have paid lip service to for decades before inevitably donning their headsets and calling two passes for every handoff.
There are three interrelated causes for the rushing resurgence.

1. The Rise of the Dual-Threat Quarterback

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is almost single-handedly skewing the N.F.L. rushing data. Fields has 104 carries on scrambles and designed options for 749 yards. Removing his production from the league’s data would drop the N.F.L. per-carry average from 4.537 to 4.502: The latter figure would still be an all-time high, but it’s still a striking illustration of the impact one player can have.

Scramblers have produced gaudy rushing figures for decades, but never has there been as many quarterbacks running as frequently and boldly as there are in 2022. Fields, Jackson and Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills are all averaging more than 50 rushing yards per game this season. As recently as 2012, Washington’s Robert Griffin III was the only quarterback to average more than 50 yards per game in a season.

After years of reluctance to allow their quarterbacks to run, coaches now realize that injuries on designed options are not common and defenses rarely figure out how to neutralize such tactics. As a result, Fields, Jackson and many others both rush for chunks of yardage and make their running backs more effective by giving defenders more to worry about.
2. The Return of Running Creatively
During their long peaks, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning operated in offenses designed to allow them to call simple run plays at the line of scrimmage if defenses were back on their heels. Copycat coaches soon began pretending that all quarterbacks were just like them and needed little more from their running games than a rudimentary fallback plan.
N.F.L. coaches later realized that not every quarterback is a human supercomputer and are now scouring the appendices of their playbooks for abandoned rushing tactics.
As mentioned above, many teams dared to allow their quarterbacks to run occasionally. The Titans, Vikings and San Francisco 49ers have rescued the fullback from the brink of extinction. The Giants and Cleveland Browns have revived pulling-and-trapping tactics along the offensive line to create openings for Barkley and Nick Chubb. The Seattle Seahawks punish defenses with heavy formations with three tight ends. And so forth.
These diversified rushing tactics have allowed teams with less-than-stellar quarterbacks to thrive. Meanwhile, defenses built to stop the passing game at all costs are getting a rude surprise.
3. The Decline of the Linebacker
As passing rates increased steadily over the last 40 years, defensive coaches began replacing one or two of their linebackers with smaller, speedier defensive backs. At first, they swapped them in only on passing downs, but eventually extra defensive backs became prominent throughout the game plans and on rosters.

A modern N.F.L. defense lines up with five defensive backs on more than 60 percent of offensive snaps and with six defensive backs on about 15 percent of snaps. That leaves just one or two linebackers to do what used to be the work of three or four in the middle of the field.
Many of the remaining linebackers are smaller, quicker pass-coverage specialists. Imagine the chagrin of some lonely, undersized linebacker when Henry, Barkley or Chubb barrels straight at him, perhaps with a fullback or a 300-pound pulling guard leading the way.
Defenses try to counter the rushing resurgence by dusting off forgotten tactics of their own. Unfortunately, multitalented linebackers like the Dallas Cowboys All-Pro Micah Parsons have rebranded themselves as sack specialists and replaced true defensive ends in the ecosystem. The burly linebackers hanging around on most benches generally belong there, and a defense that builds to stop Henry or Barkley just leaves itself vulnerable to Patrick Mahomes.
Rushing rates are likely to increase a bit more in the years to come: An ever-increasing percentage of collegiate quarterback prospects are dual threats and offensive coordinators like the Eagles’ Shane Steichen and the Seahawks’ Shane Waldron will likely bring their run-focused systems with them to head coaching gigs next year.
Teams will never be perfectly balanced — passing still nets 6.1 yards per play, making it more efficient than rushing — but the N.F.L. may finally achieve a tactical equilibrium after nearly a half century of swinging exclusively in one direction.
That equilibrium is both overdue and welcome. It’s much more fun to watch teams mix runs and passes in innovative and unpredictable ways than it was to watch Brady, Manning and 30 teams that just wished they had Brady or Manning.

But are they just passing to get the lead and then just running to kill the clock?

It's suppose to be a balmy 50 degrees with sunny skies for that great matchup between your Raiders & the Broncos. Wow...what a game: Hackett vs McDaniels, Wilson vs Carr (which team is going to play to lose? Lol). I'll be so pumped Sunday in anticipation of this stellar game I won't be able to keep myself composed. :p

Meanwhile, things are looking interesting in Buffalo. I say play the game even if there won't be a full house because of transportation issues. I'm sure there will still be plenty of diehards that will drive a snowmobile, cross-country ski, skate, etc, to the stadium. Buffalo fans, along with GB, are probably the toughest in the league.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. The interim coach was getting the job done at the Raiders. As for Denver they constantly seem to be behind the eight ball with their decision making. Grossly overpaying for a veteran QB and a coach hire wasn't a very inspiring one.. I think Carr has played his last season at the Raiders and the coach will probably be around a bit longer. If and when Carr leaves, the Raiders then fall into the same situation Denver often had. Find a consistent QB who can get them to the playoffs !

Too bad the storm is going to be so severe. I like a good snow game !.

The wimps at the NFL won the debate, and the game has been moved to a comfortable, 72 degree dome in Detroit. I'm not trying to sound like a snob here (too late!), but I think this decision is being made by rich owners and execs used to watching games from sky boxes, looking at cold fans and thinking they would loathe to have to put up with that. But you go to cities like Buffalo, GB, etc. and the fans, and many players, relish these kinds of conditions for football. Plus, people who live in places that have arctic blasts, nor'easters, lake effect snow weather, etc. own layers of wool, down, gore-tex, mittens, etc. etc. They are used to it, and they know how to deal with it.

I think the best example is Jim Kelly. He played in college for Miami, and told his agent to tell teams on draft day he'd play for almost anyone, but he didn't want to play in Green Bay, and there was no possible way he would ever play for Buffalo. After he got there, saw how great the fans were, learned how to live there, he loved it. He still lives in the area to this day.

Don't like the weather where you live? Where your football team plays? Adapt, or just move somewhere warmer.

This really made me laugh loud! Just hilarious!

My current thoughts are that what the Raiders really have is a system-wide problem. Sure, McDaniels has pretty much failed so far. But I get the impression about a quarter of the players don't want to play hard for him. I'm reminded of Pete Carroll in New England, when the old guys there got him canned. But I wonder why Mark Davis walks into McDaniels office every Sunday afternoon if there's no problem? Seems to me there should be planned meetings with McDaniels, Ziegler, and Sarah Douglas every week. If she's as smart as Davis said, and she probably is (smarter than he is, and less emotionally attached), let these people work, and watch from the sky box with the fans Mark. This of course doesn't mean McDaniels is the answer, but just firing him, hiring an entire new staff again, then rinse and repeat is just a recipe for continual failure. At least Mark sees that...for now.

I am starting to think Carr not only isn't the answer, he's at best destined to become the Alex Smith of the Raiders, just before the Chiefs drafted Mahomes. The Raiders just haven't found their future QB yet. And Smith was more consistent than Carr. The concern is, unless there is some major re-working with Carr and his agent giving up a lot, the Raiders will pay Carr $40m next year, and I think it's all guaranteed. There's no way he's worth that. Is he worth it if they lose enough games to draft a good QB in next year's draft? I doubt that too. He hesitates too much, forces the ball too often. Doesn't perform well in the clutch. Raider true, but that's about it. I called him the Anti-Plunkett, the opposite of Raider great Jim Plunkett who was at his best when it mattered most. McDaniels looks like the Anti-Flores right now. Tom Flores of course the coach who took other team's discarded players, coached to their strengths, and turned them into champions.

One other thing to note, pundits keep saying "the Raiders made the playoffs last year!" Let's see, they were 10-7, a tie-breaker got them in. A few bounced balls and they would have been out. They were blown out twice by KC. Lost to the Giants and Bears, who both were below average last season. And the Bengals beat them in the playoffs. That's hardly a team destined for greatness. Also, a couple bounced balls and they'd be 4-5 right now, and no one would be having these "they all suck!!! Fire McDaniels!!!" hysteria. If the Raiders had somehow won all of the games they lost by one score...

Not sure if Denver is going to improve much either. But I wouldn't just can Hackett all the same. At least not yet. Looks like Denver has a similar problem. But it may be worse, because they mortgaged their future to get Wilson, and I don't ever think he's going to be the player he was 3+ years ago. And the way his contract is structured, they can't just do a trade+cash deal the way Indy did with Wentz. The money is way, way, WAY too big, and they already lost far bigger draft picks to Seattle. They do have a good defense. So I'd say they have to find a way to go all-in with Russ for the next 3 years, and if he really sucks at that point, cut bait and bite the poison pill of what's left to be dead money.

Live look of the Titans dunking on the Packers season. They will not only need to win out but Giants or Cowboys to go on a big losing streak or even less likely, Vikings losing every single game from now on. In GB they might be realizing they passed their window and have no replacement for Rodgers if he decides to retire or gets traded.

ESPN Fantasy Projection: Love is entering his third season as Aaron Rodgers' backup after the Packers traded up to select him with the 26th overall pick of the 2020 draft. Love is obviously a major unknown and we haven't seen him play at a high level since 2018. He struggled in his final season at Utah State in 2019, tossing 20 TDs to 17 INTs and his off-target rate (15.5%) and QBR (51.7) were both worst in the 2020 rookie class. Love has a good arm, but his struggles with accuracy, turnovers and decision-making are concerns. There's long-term upside, but Love is no more than Rodgers insurance in the meantime.

Hardly an inspiring record even in college yet they traded up to grab him. Some parallels with the 49ers signing of Lance but at least he's played in four games and completed three for one win and supposedly has more upside even though it cost them two first round picks, and for all the talk about Jimmy G being injury prone, Lance has had three injuries in four games !

GB will obviously cling on to Rodgers for as long as possible but unfortunately for them when Rodgers had his two recent MVP seasons and the Packers received a bye in the playoffs and finished on top in the NFC, they still couldn't make it to the SB. Their window for another SB win seems to be closing

What's Twitter? :innocent:

I watched Kurt Warner's analysis of the coaches film today. It's ironic that right when Watson seems to be reaching his potential, Rodgers timing is off with everyone else.

Also, the Packers hardly tried to run the ball. So much for a team that expected to show a balanced attack. Also, it was cold and breezy, so having more balance, even if you're playing from behind, would have made a lot more sense.

Lots of injuries on the Packers also. Doubs didn't play. Watkins so hurt he didn't have a catch. Jones playing banged up. A big list. Injuries are usually a wash in the league, but the Packers seem to be hit hard.

I'd agree, their season is probably over.

Let's also credit the Titans. Great play in the trenches, and Henry is just a monster. He didn't break 100 yards, but what a baller.

I'm going to back up and say moving the game was a good idea. I've been through some huge Nor'easters and managed to slowly get around, but this is no longer just another big snowstorm. I saw the photos of the stadium, when only about 28" had fallen yesterday. It's gotten to the point where not only would fans have had a hard time getting there safely, even teams and crew may not have made it. The game may not have even been able to be played with so much snow needing removing, and no easy place to put it.

I was somewhat joking when I posted that. But they sure did go flat. The last drive the Chargers played too soft, and the last TD to Kelce it was surprising to see LA not playing over instead of just man on the Chiefs best receiver. But the Chiefs played better when it mattered. They are a hard team for me to predict how far they'll go. They are almost on track to get the top seed. But many plays, many drives, many quarters, they just look like they could lose. Then eek out games by great play from Mahomes, and basically great coaching.

If anyone saw the Raiders beat the Broncos, it was a game of lowlights. LV didn't look very good, but no worries, Denver looked worse. Wilson still playing bad, no throws deep at all. Lots of screens, quick outs. Even if he's not the player he was in Seattle I refuse to believe he can keep playing this bad. Something is grossly wrong. And if the Chargers blew their coverage on Kelce, how in the heck did the Broncos leave Adams wide open on that last play? Inexcusable.

Meanwhile, Seattle's 2023 and 2024 drafts keep looking better and better...

The Eagles barely, barely beating the Colts was something. Indy really should have won. What grit this Colts team is showing. Can't remember where their new HC was before, but he's obviously excellent. Guys playing super hard for him.

I've thought for some time the Vikings were not as good as their record, but I didn't expect Dallas to blow them out like that. But who did? The Cowboys were just dominating both OL and DL. Parsons headed to DPOY.

Similar with the Giants. They just hardly looked like a 7-2 team, but Detroit definitely playing better than a 3-6 team. Believe it or not, the Lions could make the playoffs if you look at their schedule. Two hard games, Buffalo, and Minnesota. Both at home. They could end up 9-8 in a tight NFC race.

Solid win for the Bills. Ran the ball a lot. They still look as good as any team in the league.

Hard to think the Rams are 3-7.

Hard to think the Rams are 3-7.
If the Rams win another game I'd be surprised, They have rarely gone over 20 points all season. The O line injuries, the problems with the run game, Stafford playing mediocre and now getting two concussions in two games plus the shoulder ligament issue. But their problems started before all that when they lost Whitworth, Miller and OBJ and their lack of depth acros the field has been hard to miss. The blowout loss to the Bills on their banner day was a horror start to the season. When the 49ers beat them in the second game they played, the Rams seemed to give up in the final five minutes, they stopped trying after another miserable performance. And now Kupp is out for five weeks or so.

I expected the Eagles and Giants to come back to the field and maybe the Vikings as well but after such good starts the Eagles and Vikings will have to mess up badly to miss the
playoffs.

Jeff Saturday played center for the Colts for 12 of his 14 years in the NFL. Lately he's been working for ESPN, often on Get Up.

Those run yards by Allen and Singletary are so important to the Bills at the moment.

Mahomes was left with way too much time against the Chargers and the holding flag just made it easier.

Shame Detroit lost Hockenson as their offense would be even better, now they have to work on developing their defense.

The Cowboys defense and and RB Pollard are playing well for the Cowboys.
