A case could also have been made for changing the stage finish to the KOM point where at least there would have been a proper line on the road to judge against.

If I was in the break I would be mightily pissed off with the peloton downing tools behind. That said it’s a prep race and not worth getting a nasty virus or infection that ruins your classics campaign or Grand Tour buildup.
Was there an ex-Movistar rider in the break? If there was we’d know for sure who instigated the protest! ;)

I think they did the right thing. It was a dangerous descend with the snow. But I think it was the riders who took the initiative. It looked like the organizers were fine with the snow LOL.
Was it a dangerous descent?
The snow had stopped by the time the breakaway riders stopped, and the roads were just wet.

I call nesh riders, or inadequate clothing (though one on the breakaway was shorts & no gloves)

The right term is actually not snow, it's wintry showers (or whatever it's called in a particular part of the world). It's only children who call it snow when the temperatures are well over the freezing point.

What you're thinking of is sleet, what we actually got during the stage was very much actual snow. Did you not see what the roadsides looked like?

Sleet doesn't go away immediately when it lands on grass. But the important thing here is the roads, and when the water landing on them doesn't freeze, it's basically no more "dangerous" than rain. And as you could see at the finish line, the weather was what in Northern Europe would be regarded as spring.

By the way, there are brakes on bikes, even on the ones the professionals use, as far as I know. They don't HAVE to go down a hill at full speed.

If the snow or sleet comes down intensively enough in these temperatures a wet slushy layer can form on the road. It can be quite hard to differentiate from the photos, but it makes the road far more slippery and dangerous than normal wetness. If there were such patches of slush on the road, even if only intermittently, I can understand why they called it quits.

Temperature was above freezing level, there was no snow or ice on the road, and the sky cleared before the break got to the summit They missed a huge opportunity to show the superiority of disk brakes on a wet descent.

Michael Rasmussen:
"- It seemed like a really, really stupid and rushed decision that is being made very late. I can understand if it happened after they had ridden 20 kilometres. It leaves everyone with a bad feeling."

How long is that stretch lol

200 or 300m. It's just a gimmick, as the main road they leave runs parallel to that path. After the path ends, they return to the road from where they came to end the stage.

They come from the top of the image and turn right before the end of the turn next to "Casa Forestal". They go through the path signaled as "Via Crúcis do Monte Santa Trega" and rejoin the main road after the cars parked next to "Miradoiro Constantino Cadeira"

Doesn't seem like it's going to rain, so Jumbo will take pity and not cancel todays stage. We might have a winner!

16km to go, final two climbs to be climbed
