Official 1 year ban

Page 2 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
From what i read its from August till August. Think its August 24th hence he would be 4 days late to start the Vuelta.

If this is the case then this is a 1 year 1 month ban. But since Vuelta is the last gt of the year, and i cant see him going for Lombardy, it would be more like a year an 7 months (Paris Nice 2012) and if hes going for Tour and not Giro in 2012, then its 2 years since his last gt.

Unless it turns out its from July and he can do Vuelta.

Or from August 19th. 4 days either way can make a HUUGE difference.

I hope the UCI contests this and adds another year onto it. It's no fair that he only gets one while everyone else gets 2.

I hope that Contador contests it and subsequently the UCI are exposed as the corrupt and inept fools that they are.

Why would you even wonder? Has AC ever lied to us?!?!

I guess we can now consider him retired.

Until the comeback, of course. :D

Didn't he swear on his mother's grave or was that just something certain forumites said he should do? Cuz if he had, I would believe him.

Its well known I have no time for AC, but i cant help having some sympathy. hes been stitched.

The 5 picogram or whatever it was of clenbuterol was in no way performance enhancing. Yes, he transfuses, yes, he probably micro doses epo, amongst other things, but banning him for clen is akin to jailing al capone for tax evasion.

I think this is as damning of the inability of the uci to actually catch cheats as it is of contador.

No doubt we now get to look forward to fat pat coming out tommorow and telling us how much the UCI are doing to stop drug cheats.

I hear the Vuelta is being pushed-back 6 days. Something about too much rain falling mainly on the plain that time of year.

One year seems like an odd compromise between
'tainted beef'
'Cologne lab which has lower detection threshold'
'plasticizer test, which isn't validated'
and who knows what.

Since he will be the second TDF winner stripped of the yellow jersey, will he be black-balled from all future Pro Tour teams and shunned completely from all future high level international competition?

If not, why not?

Will he start the Alberto Fairness Fund? Write a book? Out all the other dopers?

You could try Googling it, but I doubt you'll find what you're looking for ;)

I tried. All I got was this:

Although that hat and umbrella don't seem too well suited for a storm....

Sad if this happens but there is more **** happening now that will have an effect. Lance and now even this thing with Garmin and Hardie can blow up.

Those TDU guys are running REAL short on former TdF winners to invite down for next year's paid appearance.

this announcement is mean less if it isn't validated by McQuaid/UCI at all-so lets wait until the "wise guy" speaks out....
most likely this verdict will appealed by both, AC & UCI & sadly will be ridiculously extended for at least another six months, to the point that any chances of Contador riding this year will be reduced to a mere appearance at Lombardy.....

I see it more like Al Capone being convicted for only having a tiny drop of the victim's blood spattered on his suit. The amount may be insignificant, but it tells you that a substance that should not be there was there. So we ask, how did it get there and why? Did the clen come from tainted Spanish meat or from an illegal weight-cutting program? Did the victim volunteer his blood to Capone or did he get his head bashed in? But of course none of this matters because having blood on a suit is not in itself illegal, while having clen in your system is. We cycling fans have been stitched. Again.

Coincedently 1 year is the same ban (Aussie cricketer) Shane Warne got for testing positive for a diuretic. This was deemed by the cricketing authorities as taken for cosmetic rather than performance enhancing reasons.

You would have thought the Spanish cycling federation would have run this decision past the UCI before announcing it. It will be interesting to hear the UCI response.

Allegedly the RFEC did run this decision past the UCI, sort of. They asked the UCI for their opinion on this case, which is code for "will you make us look stupid if we ban him for one year and hope for the best?"
