I think what Maxtion brought up is interesting. The owner may have called Lance and told him that Tyler was at the restaurant. If Armstrong came there to confront Tyler then he may have waited somewhere in the restaurant, looking for the opportunity that came when Tyler went to the restroom.

By ALL accounts, there was no physicality, and any vitriol must have been subdued as the conversation wasn't overheard by anyone in it's entirety, yet Hamilton is the only one "banned"? The guy who doesn't even live in Aspen?

There could be a chain of events:

1) Tyler goes into the restaurant.
2) Owner calls Lance.
3) Lance drives to the restaurant.
4) Lance waits for Tyler.
5) Lance waiting is observed by restaurant staff.
6) Tyler goes to the restroom.
7) Lance confronts Tyler.
8) Lance talks to restaurant owner.
9) Restaurant owner bans Tyler.

Restaurant owner is now involved with a plan to intimidate a witness.

I'm not too big on conspiracy theories to be honest. Most of the time, the real dumb stuff happens as a spur-of-the-moment thing when repercussions aren't fully thought out.

If anything, the "banning" may have been an after-thought in an attempt to implicate Hamilton as the instigator and take the focus off of an unwise confrontation on the part of LA. Kind of a "We have to make it look like Tyler came after Lance and not the other way round" sort of thing...

UPDATE: A commenter below just pointed out another intriguing aspect of this encounter: Hamilton is a witness in an ongoing federal investigation, of which Armstrong is the target.[/url]
We don't know whether or not Armstrong is "the target".

JV has already testified to the grand jury I believe, and did so without a subpoena. Ditto for some other Garmin folks.

I don't think JV has any interest in adding to the firestorm. I've been a critic of his, but I think at this point, he may be playing this correctly. He has a responsibility to the sponsors and his riders. He can't go out and trash pro cycling or he'll never get any sponsors and lots of people will lose their jobs, from masseurs to mechanics, soigneurs, riders, etc.

Thanks Einstein. I mean where did you pick up your amazing abilities to read a situation?

You're soooo right, right now Armstrong's not a target. They are after some junior athletes taking baking soda to improve their lap times at a local meet. Armstrong is small fry and they're using him to get to people lower down the chain.

coffee - can you smell it?

Confrontation 101. Stand in front of someone. Attempt to overpower them with you stance. Do it in a public place so the other person can't flip out. If they do - label them as crazy. Bait them with "I looked after you. I tried to help. I made you. You wouldn't have even ridden in Europe without me and then you make up all these lies?".

Tyler handled it very well. Everyone knows what Lance is capable of. We've seen it before. When he's not in control he strikes out in attempt to regain control. Then pretends it never happened.

Its a rehash of Simeoni and countless other before and after him.

I disagree completely.

JV said exactly what he needed to say. And, this is the strongest insight yet that he has spoken out when and where it is most appropriate.

Walk softly and carry a big stick.

Lance should be even more worried now.

Dave.

Total agreement D-Q..
JV is quite intelligent...he did not have to say a thing but there it was on twit...

Lance just seems to be bad at laying low and staying smart...he's his own worst enemy.

Witness intimidation?

Lance is not on trial.
Tyler is not a witness.

Try to follow this. A grand jury is in session and is investigating Armstrong and his activities. Tyler Hamilton has given testimony to the grand jury that is adverse to the interests of Armstrong. A physical confrontation with words to the effect that he has done so much for Hamilton over the years, can be seen as intimidation of a grand jury witness who will likely be called as a government witness at a criminal trial if Armstrong is indicted. One could argue that the mentioning of prior aid is a veiled offer to continue the same or similar help in return for recanting grand jury testimony. Physically stopping and upsetting a grand jury witness because of that witness' grand jury testimony is coming close to obstruction of justice.

And they were discussing the 60minutes Interview it seems.

Which revolved around grand jury testimony.

It is ok for George and Tyler and Greg and Betsy to discuss their grand jury testimony with anyone btw.

Yes. That is specifically permitted under the US Penal Code. This has been discussed on this thread previously.

The grand jurors themselves have to keep mum.

Yes.

But there have been plenty of GJ leaks - for sure.

Really??!! Describe one in detail. I'm not aware of any despite what Armstrong's counsel/PR flacks have alleged. If there was a gj leak and they knew about it, I have to think they would have gone to the presiding judge to complain. I don't think they've done that. Gosh, I wonder why.

Leaky Witch Hunt no doubt.

Those leaky witches are terrible and very difficult to hunt.

Strange, did LA's subscription of Bazaarvoice service end? Or is businessinsider not on their watchlist? Nobody in the (home)office?

Have we seen articles without troll comments in the past days?

If he wasn't the target he would have been asked to testify to a GJ as a witness by now.

For someone who is not a target he sure is burning a big hole in his earnings hiring numerous lawyers and PR people to represent him.

The reason we know that LA is a target is because Stephanie McIlvain was hauled in front of a GJ for 7 hours - there is only one reason she was brought in and it was not about the latest Oakley line of sunglasses.

No - in the JV Bikezilla interview, JV said:
"I have not appeared in front of a Grand Jury at this time. I fully expect that at some point I will, or that I'll be asked to. As of here and now, today, that hasn't happened".
More than likely he has spoken to investigators - the GJ approach appears to be reserved for witnesses that may prove 'hostile' or unlikely to talk.

I agree that JV should not discuss this openly, as more public statements could do more to harm the investigation or subsequent trial.

JV said the same thing on the Flammecast- that he hasn't testified to the GJ.

I don't see why he would lie about that. No way he could get away with it.

Huh?

Tyler didn't provide testimony before the grand jury?

Tyler lying about being a grand jury witness? Very sad...:(

Yes, Tyler testified months ago, I believe.
But doesn't "Witness Intimidation" take place BEFORE a witness testifies?
Lance DOES pay attention to details.
One of the many reasons he won 7 times.

And is depriving someone of delectable Colorado Cuisine truly intimidating?
Is that a Federal Offense?
Is Smoked Scottish Salmon with a side of Foie Gras Terrine that yummy?

C'mon guys.
I understand being a hater is difficult.
And being a fanboy is a walk in the park.
It is not a level playing - I will be the first to admit.
My hat goes off to you guys.

But c'mon.

Very convenient. He has to maintain omerta to protect the investigation...uh, protect the sport...uh, protect his sponsors...uh, protect the team...uh, protect himself. No, no, not that last one. That sounds too self-serving. It is the riders. Yeah, that is the ticket. It is his riders that he is protecting.

JV was protecting Lance long before there was an investigation. He will still be protecting him while he is sitting in prison.

JV and Lance don't like each other.

I don't like that JV remains silent about his own doping - however I see little to be gained and a lot to lose (for him & others) by making public statements now.

Maintaining Omerta would not be making any comment on doping - if he had refused to discuss this with the investigators he would have been called before a GJ, which does not appear to be the case.

To the first part - how?
Second part - can I have the weekends lottery numbers?
