yes, Bonfire of the Vanities a great read.

I live in Co...used to go to Aspen a lot in the late 70s..a way different feel before the money and pseudo-celebrities and glamourous peacocks.
Sad for the locals that were forced out due to the high cost of living , and yes , the town now fits Lance to a 't'.
There are still normal folks and a low key side, but sadly they are not the political and power juggernaut that shapes the future there anymore.

When Kevin Costner moves in you know a town has lost it's soul.

I mentioned to Frankie long ago before lance bought a house there that I'd love to take the kids there. With all that's going on, how ridiculous is it that we should stay away from Aspen on purpose. It's like saying lance has no business coming to Michigan.

Did you stop going to Aspen in 1992 because that was the year that LA turned pro?

What makes you say that? The Tour de France does not bestow intelligence on the winner. Lance has proved time and time again that he is reckless. He has a history of doing unnecessarily stupid things. A few months ago there was an interview with a writer that knows Lance. Telluride blows Aspen away on all fronts. Beauty not even close, mountain Ajax is a joke compared to the terrain in Telluride, charm of town again not even close. Aspen is for the want to be seen crowd and the want to see crowd.

this has to be the saddest thing about the guy. he never had a strong father figure in his life and boy he sure appears to making sure his kids have some shít to deal with as they grow to realise what kind of a guy he is.

Agreed. Telluride isn't cheap anymore, but it's still so much more down to earth than Aspen. Gotta be the most scenic town in N. America.
