Not a chance. If he switched then he would not get free or discounted bikes from Trek anymore. There is a definite case of a toolbag getting paid off to promote the Lace agenda.

I don’t follow the Fat Cyclist regularly at all, but did read his Leadville write-up this year and remember that he received a free Specialized 29er hard-tail for breaking 9 hours.

Also, he has been asked at times and repeatedly denies being paid to promote any of the stuff he writes about on his website. In absence of any proof to the contrary, I’ll give him (FC, not LA) the benefit of the doubt.

But, yeah, not really relevant. The “cute” factor aside, does anyone really think an 8-year-old boy with stars in his eyes- or his father, for that matter- is a good source of unbiased information?

To be honest, about the only thing Leopard-Trek needs from RadioShack, is RadioShack's money.

I knew he had this "thing" with Livestrong, so was suprised to see he got a free Specialized.

Do you think he really is getting paid to promote them... I guess if you consider getting a free bike as a form of getting paid, then yes.

The stuff I read was in the comments section and they were for energy bars or something. He denied getting paid for the favorable mentions, but even if true, he seems to have a pretty good thing going, free bikes and all.

I don't know a ton about the Fat Cyclist and only read the blog for the 1st time a couple of weeks ago (and not since). The Livestrong alliance does not set well with me, but I only know a very small part of the story. I did read that his first wife died of cancer, so I can certainly understand his initial motivation.

Ironically, reading his Leadville report added to other things I've heard that are turning me off of that race, but I digress ......

Back to Lance.

Yes, they would be, in a vacuum of talent at Leopard-Trek.

Keep in mind, though, that Kloeden will be 37 before the start of next year's Tour, and I'm not too sure they don't have their own version of Brajkovic, without the Brajkovic baggage (it seems you have to throw him a leadership role in a few races every year).

Which also supports my suggestion that the "merger" makes no sense. If the most successful rider for RadioShack in 2011 will be reduced to second-class citizenry at Leopard-Trek, and Leopard already has a very strong roll of supporting riders, then the only thing of any value to them is the RadioShack sponsorship.

I'd be surprised if more than a handful of RadioShack riders at best are invited to come over to the new proposed team. Especially with the influence the Schleck brothers have.

I agree. There is also the notion (whether correct or not) that Bruyneel's organization may be an upgrade as far as leading the Schlecks to a tour victory.

Seems to that anybody with grand tour aspirations of any kind should stay as far away from the Schlecks as they can.

But lets keep our eyes on Axel Merckx, he seems to have great interest in the young neo's on shack late now in the season. perhaps he is looking out for them until....
