What's the deal with Tyson Gay. Very fast times but seems to be very-anti-doping. Obviously not a guarantee of anything but is part of US Anti-Doping Agency's "Project Believe" program.

Regardless of that from the interviews I have seen he seems like a decent guy.

Not inherently more worthy than a female shot put athlete.

The misogyny here is nauseating (not you, the tangent of the thread).

If he isnt doping then he has to be gutted. Two of the people above him have had bans. I would say that I do believe that once should get a lengthy ban, everyone should be allowed rehab...twice and still running is just not on.

I also toy with the idea that if you are caught doping then possibly you get a 4 year first time ban, a second time lifetime ban, but with the first ban comes a lifetime olympic games participation ban. It wont stop some but it would be food for thought for others perhaps. It would also go along way to stopping people like serial doper Gatlin getting a medal.

Australia are frothing at the mouth about doing badly this year.

It's about gold as far as the media is concerned. We've had many people almost in Gold fall short. But they still medaled, which IMO is fantastic.

Michael Diamond, a former two time Olympic Gold medallist went into the final of the mens single trap shooting with an Olympic record of 125/125. He lost the Bronze shootout. He missed 5 targets in the final 25. I feel sorry for him...he's lost it in the finals before. Consistent shooter though. Always makes the finals. He lost an obvious Gold. Emily Seebohm lost an almost guaranteed Gold in the womens 100m backstroke and James Magnusson was just edged out in the mens 100m free by 0.01 seconds. Anna Meares in the womens track cycling in the madison (I think it was the madison or maybe it's the kierin) lost a sitter medal as well. She should have gotten silver behind Pendleton. I could also make a case for our track mens 4km team pursuit...they are the most consistent the last few years and same for our mens 4 rowing...but they still won silver. They still did well. How the Brits beat them is definitely an eye turner.

Only definite medals we lost out on. Four examples. Two still got Silver. Two missed out entirely. The Australian WC from 2008 in the mens sailing Laser class Tom Slingsby lost out entirely in Beijing. Won Gold a few hours back. But he was interviewed days back and asked how he deals with being the favourite in every event he's entered for the past three years. Only individual Gold medal winner Australia has had. Which is odd given the Olympics since 1992. Erin Densham was a favourite for the womens Triathlon Gold. Had Nordhaug and Spirig not stayed with her, which based on results this year they wouldn't have, she'd have won. She did everything right. Her lowest finish this season was 2nd. She raced indentically to every other race, people just stuck with her this time. They're taller and faster sprinters. No shock they out sprinted her in the final 150m.

probably for getting only one gold thus far (10 silver, 6 bronze).
and I don't believe they are traditionaly in the running for many medals at the athletics, right? so they might not have that many chances left to increase the score.

Mens and womens hockey. Kookaburras are the predominant mens team in the world. They do however have a habit of losing focus. Hockey speaking from experience is prone to horribly biased referees at times. A slightly biased ref can destroy an entire campaign. Seen it happen at every Olympics to one or two teams since 2000. Same garbage as the gymnastics. Certain national judges/refs/umpires favour other nations. Kookaburras and Hockeyroos have serious chances to medal. Our teams have the best single male and female players; Jamie Dwyer and Casey Eastham.

Womens water polo is a chance. They always are. They've won Gold medals and bronze in recent Olympics going back to Sydney. They beat China yesterday in a penalty shootout to make the semis. One Chinese woman looked like a dude. Sumo wrestler build. Not as big as a Russian water polo female I saw. She's downed all the caviar and vodka in Siberia by the looks of it. Massive build. Then again I just saw a Belarussian female win the shot-put of the Kiwi Maori girl who won Gold in Beijing. Haircut...think Wiggins. Build...definitely needs a gender test. I would swear she looks like a dude. Uglier than Bronzini...that's saying something. I've been watching all games to see a female who looks more butch. Finally found them.

Oh and Australian Steve Hooker has the highest mens jump in history of those competiting in the pole vault. Won Gold in Beijing and is a former WC. Had horrible form the past 12 months. But he could medal. The one definite favourite Australia has is Sally Pearson who won silver in Beijing in the womens 100m hurdles. She ran 12.54 in Beijing, where 5 people were within 0.02 seconds of getting a medal. Lolo Jones tripped in that race and blew a virtual Gold. Pearson is the current WC. She won all but one race last season. By far and large the fastest womans hurdler. Jessica Ennis time for the heptathlon the other day was 12.56 for the hurdles...Pearson ran 12.57 for the first round. Her final time will be near 12.30. She is the over whelming Gold medal favourite. Before the games she was about the only Olympian I expected to dominate in any event from Australia. Her last season record was amazing. IAAF female athlete of the year.

Australia has relied heavily on swimming to win lots of Gold. Been that way since Sydney and Atlanta. Our swimmers were always guaranteed for at least two gold. We were spoilt in the past. All the old performers retired and favourites who won Gold in Beijing were injured or past their best. Up to the younger guys/girls to deliver. We pick up team medals in Hockey, water polo and basketball. Our sailors often pick up medals. So do our shooters and also our equestrians. Tops-Alexander has a chance in the show jumping. She is the worlds best. Our kayakers on the regatta course have been known to medal as well. Our rowers and cyclists usually do very well. They have done well...slightly down on the past. However the track cycling only won a single silver in Beijing...massive improvement. They have silver and two bronze ATM. Our divers have also won Gold in recent Olympics. Our sailing 49ers are potentially challenging for Gold.

Short story, we're up there like the past. Problem is the finishing aspect, the bit to go from bronze to silver or better, the ability to go from silver to Bronze is a bit lacking in relation to the past. Answer why? Other nations improved. China, Britain and others. Adversely, a lot of it is luck, nerves and the individuals executing. They have the ability, but like I stated with Michael Diamond, pressure can get to you. No shame there. At least they competed and were in with a chance.

you should take a look at the womens shot-put winner Nadzeya Ostapchuk.

Looks worse. Does nothing for the confidence. Good for them though they won a medal. I can't imagine life will be kind to them.

Note: I am an idiot and can't get the link to work. Anyone want to fix it? Be my guest if you do.

The Salazar cocktail includes some testosterone, EPO and HGH not to mention blood doping. Nike has a blood lab set up in the Mia Hamm building these guys use when in Portland and its in the most highly classified area. The guy in charge used to work with Lance Armstrong's group.

The kierin. On form Meares should win but she just had a horrible race and was in a photo finish for last.

For the 4K TM (At least on the track) it is not such a big surprise that they got beat by GB. They got beat in the worlds and, although Aus have fast riders, Glenn O'Shea is a weak link

I have seen enough strong looking ladies who have never gone near a sport to realise that looking masculine does not automatically mean doping.

Same here. But facially, they still looked feminine. Go to any gym and find a fitness bikini competitor. Those women look great and female. Go watch the womens hockey like I am now. All of the women look fantastic. They look like women. Sure womens water polo players are larger...but there are anomalies in a few Chinese and Russians, they clearly look masculine. Then there are the pure power events. Discus, shot-put, where the occurance rises. Also note the wrestlers and above all else, the weight lifters. People who look like dudes but we are assured are female. Think Caster Semenya.

You clearly haven't seen the Tammy Thomas photos. Showed my mother one the other day. She said "that man looks like he has a female hair cut." Lol...she was laughing when she found out her assumption was around the wrong way.:D

thanks. I did miss a back slash.

Most masculine looking athlete I have seen so far who is female.

Clearly not male, throwing distance is far too low. But it never helps when something 'looks' suspect.

And Chris Brown is competing in the mens 400m final. Of the Bahamas. The man who found Love and then Punched it/her in the face. Something the IOC overlooked?

Wait...I must be missing something?????

Mens and womens hockey.

About the male team I would agree, about the female team not. I'd say they are a candidate for the podium, but they aren't the favorites for gold. I'd rank the Dutch and Argentinians higher. The English and Germans are also an outside threat. And the Dutch Females have the best player in the world; Maartje Paumen.

So don't be to surprised if they go back empty handed. (I would be surprised about the males).

For the record, I'm ging to ask for moderators to stop the bashing of women based on looks.

This is crossing over into ridiculing women for how they look and that's plain wrong.

How can someone expect proof when most of the sporting federations are corrupt.

When there is almost complete domination in a sport by a team or country, is it a coincidence that they found so many naturally gifted athletes at that particular time (highly unlikely) or is another reason, more than likely a doping program?

I will go with a doping program. The history of the sport tells us this is the real reason behind the success. To be dominant at a certain event in a sport, yes maybe, but all the rest coming together now seems to much to be a coincidence.

I feel that those convinced of a clean TeamGB can't see the wood for the trees.

Everyone knows Glenn O'Shea is weak. You can't go into the final with GB breaking the WR and have one rider dropping at the 2750m mark in the heats and the 3km mark later on. Think he made it to 3250m in the final. Not even close to good enough. Was to be expected they'd be a few seconds down. Rohan Dennis and Jack Bobridge aren't machines.

That wasn't the suspect performance from GB. The mens sprint with Chris Hoy annihilating the WR was odd IMO. No, it was the womens team 3km that got me. They were light years faster than everyone else. 2nd through to 5th were within a second of each other. 4-5 seconds faster than everyone just beggars belief I don't care who does it. Just like the female swimmers under 17 years of age. Franklin, Shiwen and the Eastern Euro girl. It's the women surprising me, not the men at these games. That's why I like the technical sports and team events. Less BS and my eyes don't lie to me with every winner. Only have to deal with biased judges/refs.

Gotta be fair to them. Their swimmers looked normal. I thought Addlington would win at least one gold, possibly two with the 400m and 800m free. She got whooped. She is 23. Way down on her Beijing times. A difference I can put down to the swim suits rule changes.

Nah, the USA in the pool. 50% of ALL golds is just ridiculous. Historically they win a lot, but I don't remember it ever being this high. Then there is their men and women sprinters. Thank God LaShawn Merritt apparently 'pulled' a hamstring in the 400m mens first round heat. He's as bad as Gatlin. Anyone remember his BS response to getting popped a few years back? The whole "I was getting laid and having a ton of sex and needed an upper from a little blue tablet." Gosh, come to think of it, given the number of condoms thrown delivered to the Olympic village (150,000 or 15 per athlete), surprised those who get popped don't just claim they were banging anything that moves...hence their positive.

Rupp is the tell, man. A white guy whooping Africans? The only guy he didn't beat was a product of Salazar.com
