Kwiatkowski instead of Martin, and done deal :D

Tony will get his medal in the TT.

We are joking but the Omega boys should do well on saturday. Fingers crossed for Kwiatek, he is in great form.

Watch him crush Boonen on Saturday.

Gentleman's bet: If Cav wins I will come here and bow before "the youngest". But if Boonen wins you must do the same. Deal?:D

There has never been a bunch sprint in the olympic road race and there won't be one this time.
If teams had 9 riders this would be a different story.

I was just thinking....

Remember how Sky was unable to pull back Boonen in Paris-Roubaix? Eventhough they had like 4 riders and Boonen went from IIRC over 50km or something? All those Sky riders together just had less gass left than Boonen after 200km.

I'm hoping for a repeat; only with Boonen in the company of Cancellara :D

Is this true? I don't really have a lot of memories about Olympic road races.

Expecting bunch sprint from a group of 30-40 guys with all top sprinters in shape like Cav, Goss and Sagan. Sky will try to limit the looses on the hilly part and go full on the last flat 40kms. They will prepare everything perfectly, every last km of the chase, every watt needed to bring back the attackers etc. The only chance to avoid bunch sprint is a group of 10-12 guys, cooperating together from top teams so GB willl have to work alone.

It is not like the professional Road race sprinters have had much in the way of opportunities, this is most likely to be their biggest one yet

Hi guys. dub question!

What is the motivation of the team mates to help the leader win the gold medal?

It is not like in the tour de france or a "monumento" that the leader will share the prize... there is only one medal.. why all the riders do not try to win?

I think that it would make more sense if all the guys in the champion team won one medal! :D

Beating a 32 year old guy who just broke his rib. Amazing, stuff of legends for sure.

I'm under no illusion that Cav will win on Saterday. Doesn't mean Cav has had super performances right after the Tour before because he simply hasn't. Let's face it, this race is a joke in terms of difficulty. Just like Cav didn't really have good shape in 2011 when he won in Copenhagen. He just lucked out on a good course. Had the course been as hard as in 2010 he would've been dropped like a stone again.

1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008 were no bunch sprints. I think 2000 was an easy parcours yet didn't end in a bunch sprint.

2004 Bettini and Paulinho escaped together and stayed away from the peloton. Axel Merckx also managed to stay away from the peloton, but he wasn't part of the original Bettini/Paulinho breakaway.

Most of the guys in the race have exactly no chance to win, not 1%, 0%. Just like in the marathon or the 100m sprint, or table tennis or whatever. The difference is, that in this race they might be able to help a countryman win a medal. And while they might not get any public recognition for that I suppose the private satisfaction is enough for some.

Two big differences this time.

Number 1 - no cobbles

Number 2 - Wiggins and Froome.

Indeed many people ask the question but I believe it is the pure prestige of the occasion and the determination for riders to put on an impressive professional show which make them want to do their best for their leaders.

Number 1 - no cobbles likely a bigger break

Number 2 - they need to drive Cavendish, so a high tempo on the hills is impossible. If we have a strong break two minutes ahead of Cav after Box Hill they are done. Even so strong they are, they will never catch a stron break with classic guys like Fabian or Boonen. It is not chasing a tired break of average riders in TDF.

If we have a proopper break, strong with the best nations represented it goes to the end.

If that is true, then why didnt the favourites do exactly that in last year's World Champs?

Could you explain to me guys how on earth is it posiible that we have only one rider from Slovakia in the race, one from Luxemburg, two from Kazakhstan, Czech Republic.

And for example three from Turkey, Iran, Morocco etc

UCI points, harder to come back by in Europe than in those exotic places and all that.....

The same reason effectively everyone wanted to get Sohrabi at the beginning of the season....

Because we had twice the number of Brittish riders...

Because the whole race was flat and there was no risk of dropping Cav so the tempo was high the whole race, and nobody had a chance to significantly ride away. Now on the circuit around Box Hill the Brits can not control it like that, because they would drop Cav
