Bad day for cycling.

Vino has a lot of fans who know cycling, but for the average sportsfan, Vino is a doper and another example of the fact that cycling is a sport dominated by dopers.

The average sports fan doesn't even know who Vino is.

Sad but true. The race was great in terms of spectacle but in terms of result, big step backwards for pro racing

So having a Sky rider win is any better?

They're all part of the same game.

Aussies didn't need to do anything. They had O'Grady in the break. GB knew this was coming their way and they failed to respond. They knew all the other teams would be throwing breaks at them at every opportunity and they failed to get anyone in the break. Big fail for GB.
Right because in that field O'Grady would have had a chance? Once they got over Box Hill for the last time Goss would be their best chance for a medal.

I would say getting someone in the break is a tough one for GB. With 7-9 riders its a no brainer but with 5 it becomes tougher. I, personally, think they should have but who would be a good fit for that?

Can't knock Aus for not joining the chase, O'Grady even out there all day was one of the best sprinters in the break.

Boonen looked very very strong, considering that he had a flat tire with 10km to go and had to chase back to the peleton.

Definitely made a mistake in having too much confidence in Sky bringing it back together. But hey, we all thought Sky would bring everything back together... Wish he followed his own advice though: not waiting for the bunch sprint. Should've probably focused his race on Cancellara.

wow uran and vino must have made the negotiations while riding away from a charging peloton and chase group:rolleyes:

This; I can't see how they had the time to negotiate some sort of deal.

Uran is young, unexperienced, he isn't the smartest rider, he is a climber so he doesn't get into these sort of sprint scenario's often. I reckon he just made a really stupid mistake.

Great ride though by Uran! Who would've predicted Uran would be second on a parcours like this?

Uran - coward, rode for silver as soon as they had a gap
Spain - cowards, three guys in the break and they all sit on

Unfair on Castroviejo. He did a metric ton of work early in the day cos he'd been in the break since the start, and with Albasini and co. LLS and Valverde sat on way too passively for riders of their stature for sure though.

Uran, looks behind, over wrong shoulder, for the invisible chasers.
Continues to turn a blind eye as Vino goes.
Gets cramp and cannot move head into forward position.
Eventually rotates back into normal position, as Vino gets read to celebrate!

Uran sold the gold to Vino, it seems from watching some replay of a conversation between the 2.
Vino isn't short of the odd bit of bullion.

give a bit of credit to Vino making a clever move there when Uran looked over his left shoulder to see how big the gap was and Vino jumped right.

Clever move? More like completely *** from uran to peel off at 250m to go.

Great win for Vino. He may have a checkered past but he fully deserves his win to cap a great career. Great rider. He'll be missed when he's gone. Old school.
