But is that up to date? I thought consensus was that Haussler wasn't going because of his knee? I'm confused, now. Well, nevermind, we'll see on saturday.

Just today I've read an article in the organizing paper where they say Haussler is injured so he probably won't win, and another on the website of a Dutch newspaper where Cervélo's Van Poppel says Thor's been ill but the rest of the team is in fine shape. Much confusion about Barbie Barbie, it seems.

Steegmans is a major doubt after his crash in Algarve which left him with concussion. Demol has said Steegman's headaches must be 100% gone or Demol won't let Steegmans race.

I'm no RS fan, but thank **** for helmets.

Long time reader, first time poster! :) Well, the rain's photogenic at least!

This year I'm planning to 'do' my first Classics season as a spectator at the roadside, starting with Het Whatever and K-B-K. I've checked out a lot of sources, but details are a bit thin on some of the big spectating questions.

I'm planning to see Het at the Muur van Geraardsbergen and K-B-K on the Oude Kwaremont.

Has anyone got experience of getting to the Muur on race-day as I've only visited G'bergen thus far in peacetime. What's the parking situation like in the town? Same question goes for the Kwaremont, which is of course a village location.

I've been studying photos and Google Earth. I figure it could be a nightmare (especially doing two stops in a single race, even with GPS) but any advice from those who know the ground situation would be gratefully appreciated. :) :)

I'll write down my experiences in detail on my website (link above) after each event for anyone else who might want the info.

Hi There
'Omloop' basically means here and there or all over the place, so the course is just designed to incorporate as many of the nasty bits as possible. It however does mean that if you plan a bit and get the locals to point you in the right direction (belgian fans are crazy, drunk and usually very friendly) you can easily see the riders 3 or 4 times in a day. It would seem a shame to go all the way and not get to glimpse them more than once. Looking at the parcours if you head for Horebeke or nearby you can catch them a few times, the muur is obviously the best known but that also means busiest and its a bit out of the way for all the other climbs. Also youll know when they are in the area as they have one crazy siren preceding the riders in a car.

Quick Step for Omloop Het Nieuwsblad: Tom Boonen, Sylvain Chavanel, Stijn Devolder, Kevin De Weert, Nikolas Maes, Kevin Hulsmans, Jurgen Van de Walle, Maarten Wynants.

A couple of long shots (perhaps):

Manuel Quinziato - he did a lot of work at the front in Qatar (and Oman too, I presume), and didn't really figure in the rankings on his own, but he's tough as nails and Het Nieuwsblad should mark the beginning of his favorite races. I don't know if he's quite there yet, form wise, to perform on his own, but I certainly hope so. He was damn close to a podium spot at last year's RVV, and I'll be here - sitting comfortably in my chair - cheering him on :D

Matthew Goss - did feature in a couple of sprints down under and in Qatar, without really being a contender. But I suppose races like Het Nieuwsblad, GP E3 and, perhaps, Gent-Wevelgem could be well within his reach this year. He can handle the cobbled climbs, he can sprint - he should be alright. I wonder why he isn't on that short (no, long) list of names from the bookmaker, though. Did I miss something - is he injured?

Ah well, you heard it hear second.. :D

Be nice if people around here are asking saturday night "who the **** is Ian Stannard"

Saw him ride a solo break all day at the tour of Britain a couple of years ago.
Big strong rider..good luck to him.

Winter Olympics, QUALIFYING for the superbikes, HIGHLIGHTS of the GP2 series, a REVIEW of the australian supercross series, and the best crashes in the world ever.. (all of which are then repeated later)

Nothing that we really need..

People may not like murdoch but for us brits the sooner sky or itv4 step in and pick up a few races the better..

What about the WTA, it conveniently ran overtime every single day last week so my recordings of Oman were actually recording of some rubbish tennis in Dubai. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come once we get into live coverage events...

My first ever Virtual Director Sportif team was built mainly around stage races, because that's what I've watched in the past. I checked the provisional start list, and all I've got is Tyler Farrar and Stuart McGrady, so they go like hell or I'm bottom ten percentile for the rest of the year. I probably should have taken more than twenty five minutes to pick twenty five riders:rolleyes:

At those odds, Stijn's the best bet going around. Watch him soften up the break on the Wolvenberg before he drops the hammer on the Kopenberg. Big Tom won't get over the lumpy bits, especially this year. Agree with whoever said it's still "Het Volk". Always has been, always will.
