Bennett 38th in the second group. He has some really good climbing legs this year.
I, too, remember LeMond vs Hinault and Visentini vs Roche as prime examples of chivalry.Yea but you don't remember the romantic side, when politics and social agreements regulated behavor, before this hedonistic and ruthless individualism set in. It was no different with sponsors and teammates 30-40 years ago, and yet there was a certain chivalry.
As much as I think crashes and mechanicals are part of cycling and waiting is silly - even as a Schleck fan, I wasn’t mad at Contador - you can hardly tell stories about this win to your grandchildren. He beat a weak field by taking advantage of a fallen rider when he wasn’t even the strongest rider. I don’t have an issue with not waiting as I said, but it is an important part of the story.what a pathetic way to win for Bora. Roglic loses and yet again looks like the real champion. in the wind on his own for 20k chasing and never gave up, I think Shachmann spent about 15 seconds the entire week in the wind. stupid stage.
What did he say?good interview with schachmann
he has mixed feeling about winning like that, but at the same time he had puncture and nobody waited and then roglic crashed first time they waited, but he crashed second time and they were riding after the stage so overall he was a bit awkwardly happy, clearly aware of how he did itWhat did he say? I missed it.
Or anti-chivalry as may be the case. In fact they stired up much controversy then in the press, as I'm sure you recall. Of course, chivalry itself is based upon calculated interests.I, too, remember LeMond vs Hinault and Visentini vs Roche as prime examples of chivalry.
I am sick to the back teeth of all the sanctimonious people on here saying how awful it was they didn't wait for Roglic and people are idiots to not agree
Please its sport not a tea party...you win for your team and your sponsor
No one waits for the guy in 2nd when he crashes but you must for the lead ...total tosh
The second guy could have gone on and won !!
And if you dont think JV would do the same then you are deluded
Crashing is part of the sport ...staying on your bike is part of wining ...pleeeeeeeeeeeessssssse
The way I see it, Roglic was fully within his right to not let Mäder have the win yesterday.
The other GC riders were fully within their right to not wait for Roglic today.
I feel sorry for both.
And I've just seen Schachmann's comments. It's a ridiculous thing to say no one waited for him after his own mechanical, i.e. he was always going to get back with 80 km left (& Jumbo didn't go full gas did they?).
Being within ones "rights" though is different from making a strategically smart choice. The way I see it, Roglic was fully within his right to not let Mäder have the win yesterday.

haha, relax. your hero will go on to win another race soon.
Roglic will probably win every stage race he enters
If I were him I'd be out to win the one that really matters ...The Tour where Pogocar going by today looks like he could be invincible
Might even find a way to win a few he doesn't enter!
But has he ever won Paris - Nice finishing in Rome?Schachmann, back to back winner of Paris - Nice not finishing in Nice.
He is no Chris Harper though.
The straight final run-in was only 100 m. Better to be first. He's in ideal position and starts his sprint very late.
It was such an exciting race in the final 20km. Best racing of the year.I guess people who were angry at Roglic yesterday can celebrate today. It's always crap when crashes or techicals decide a race, it's exciting racing for viewers but leaves a sour taste in your mouth. But like him or not, he and his team fought till the end, hopefully his injuries are not too bad and we can see him back soon.
How on earth can you know that, there was no tv coverage?
Next time a Bora rider stops to take a bathroom break 100 km from the finish, let's see the peloton go full gas & drop them. I mean that's pretty much the finality of that thinking.
What Primoz did yesterday was ride to win a stage & that "upset people" because they were rooting for the little guy. The fact he passed the guy so late was simply a result of the GC battle unfolding (attacking, slowing down, counter-attacking etc.).
Yesterday the strongest won, today he lost. That's the big difference between both scenarios (among other ethical cycling stuff which goes way back, i.e. "don't attack the yellow jersey when he crashes").
