French cycling legend Bernard Hinault had some interesting comments on yesterday's happenings, saying he thought Caisse d'Epargne left their move a little late. Had they gone earlier, they might have had a break of three or four minutes, enough to really make a difference in the GC.

He also pointed out that Contador showed that he has a problem with the wind. “It’s probably his only weak spot. In this respect, his team must learn to protect him because we could find ourselves in the same situation on the Tour, especially in Holland where it could be even more windy. In the first three days, there could be splits any time.”

I think Hinault has something there, Conta does see to dislike the wind.

He really went out on a limb there. Seems to me Noval, Gurov and others dropped the ball. Most 136 pounders aren't going to do well in the wind. It's up to the engines to provide a wind break for him to ride in. They did pretty well up to a point, then they lost focus and well we all know what happened next.

woot at getting to watch this on tv :D :p

I agree that his team should be doing more for him in these stages. You don't win races here, but you can definitely lose them.

Peloton has the break close enough that they can reel them in over the course of a few km whenever they feel like it, things look fairly relaxed at the moment and no-one is really pushing the pace at the front.

Things starting to warm up a bit now, hopefully we'll see some action inside the final 20km.
