Hey what about Carrara! huh??? He was really great today! Vacansoleil sending a pretty clear message to McQuack and the UCI...
Vacansoleil sending a message to the Cyclingnews journos as well, who did not tire to suggest that it was Ricco who got them into the WorldTour in the first place. They are a very strong team without Ricco, always have been.

Damn, I miscalculated my ride, and on top of that I got a bit lost, so I missed this. Interesting results, though. What the hell's up with Samu and his sprinting skills? Being beaten by Andy last year was weird enough, but at least that was uphill.

Samu screwed up the sprint, he seemed to be in the wrong gear. And then it was too late.

Peraud didn't have great form in the Vuelta. He was top-10 in the Worlds TT 2009, I believe.

12th actually. Nothing to sneeze at, but many GC type riders who are very good at TT rides don't compete at Worlds.

He was ahead of Wiggins that year... but didn't Wiggo stop trying after a mechanical or crash or something? I seem to remember he was challenging for a top 10 before that.

Who? Trying to catch up with the inside jokes. :)

Porte. I've always seen Porte as extremely overrated. Can somebody enlighten me to what he has done besides the Giro last year where he did well due to the big breakaway?

IIRC, Wiggins was challenging for a podium.
Peraud is good, but I don't think he'll overtake an in-form Klöden. Will probably do better than Wiggins.

Is Peraud that good a TT?

I know he was French champ a couple years back, but I don't remember too much in the way of ITT results for him last year. He was good at the Pais Vasco ITT last year... but that was a climbing route. In the Vuelta he was 92nd in the ITT. 4:30 behind a guy like Tondo.

peraud is excellent itt rider, was french champion and wouldve won the pais vasco itt if it wasn't for a crash. what course is it?? is it technical then I see peraud doing top 5.

Win the Romandie TT, and top-5 in the Worlds TT. Other than that, he did fairly well in the Clasica San Sebastian, where he had to compete with riders who had just come off the Tour.

A great season for a first year pro. But he's come to be slightly overrated as a GC rider in the Giro, where Kiserlovski and Mollema were the stronger youngsters (and by coincidence, they both finished ahead of him today).

Well, he seems to screw up his sprints one way or another. Too much pressure to win in the big races?

In fairness, he didn't screw up the biggest sprint of his career.

You would think the top 5 GC standings tomorrow will read:

1. Tony Martin
2. Janez Brajkovic
3. Roman Kreuziger
4. Jean Christophe-Peraud
5. Wiggins, Rogers, Kloden, Leipheimer.

:D

Peraud to take 25s on Sanchez and 29s on Klöden? Seems a bit much.

LuLu fails like I predicted ;)
So...does El Pistolero still think he is a mountain goat?

Still think Mollema would have been the better bet

That Tirreno TTT has gone to your head. (not that I'm surprised)

Too many TTers spoil the Paris-Nice.
5 stages in and you can throw a blanket over the top 20.
Tomorrow, will see a couple of minutes spread over the same group.

After that, it will be left to the final stage for the remaining TTers to attack the ITT winner.
...........or something like that.

Thanks all. I knew he was a TT threat, just didn't understand the hype about his climbing. Always saw him more as a David Millar type (post suspension). Seems I'm about on track with what others are thinking.

Come on, he's a decent climber. He got time and motivation in that breakaway, but without the time advantage he would still have been top 15 or thereabouts. He's perfect for one-week stage races.
