This has been a surprisingly good stage of a surprisingly disappointing race. Thank you, weather - you've succeeded where ASO couldn't.

Surprisingly good as in "only 90% dreadful"?

Could you apply the same policy to people who only post to insult anyone with the temerity to enjoy a race they've already decided is dull?

The policy is applied to anyone who wishes to continue the week old debate whilst others are trying to enjoy the final 20km of a race, please drop it and don't reply to this post.

It was clear from the profile that this could be a nice circuit.

A lot better than expectations. And if it goes to a sprint now, then fair enough. It's been a bit selective and if a sprinter's made it in the front group, they deserve it.

I know I spit a lot of feathers, but I'm not totally against sprinters. I just think they should be made to work for their wins since they get more than anybody else. Today I thought the organisers had dropped the ball. I think the weather has bailed them out somewhat, but they've come out of it alright. Much like the Tondó stage of last year's race, it's not offered much in the way of GC action but we have seen plenty of action outside of that GC battle; we don't have too many people in the GC battle who I have any belief are willing to go for it, but I've been wrong so far today, so maybe we'll see Leipheimer go for a long flat solo.

I think the weather seems to be a key factor, like L'Aquila last year.

Another Martin helper goes down. It's hard enough to tell the black-and-white armadas apart without weather conditions like these.
