I think Quickstep did a similar thing in 2016 driving a split early, and boonen ended up isolated in the finalI don't know all the main contenders in the front, but if this gap stays this size it shouldn't be impossible to bring back.
However it is still the surges on the cobbles that will ruin you deeper into the race. In the Flemish hills, everyone has to make the anaerobic efforts, while in Roubaix if you're in the front you can actually spread your effort much more beneficially.
