Very aero downtube, deep carbon rims...I wouldn't want to ride a bike like that at Roubaix no matter the tire width. I mean I guess they know what they're doing, or Merida doesn't have a bike which is more appropriate to the race?

I saw at one point Bling was down to make his debut here. I was quite excited by that. I can't fully understand why he's never ridden this race.

According to the time schedule they are expected to enter Trouée d'Arenberg between 14:56 and 15:18.

Yeah, I get that. But Tuens, Mohoric and Madouas are riding today.
Ok, Mohoric isn't riding FW on Wednesday, but it's still nice to see them line up here.

yeah, but I'd be surprised if Teuns doesn't abandon the race early on. He came in as a late replacement because some riders were injured, didn't even get to do a recon, and said he wants to use it as preperation for the Tour stage. The schedule for Madouas was changed 2 or 3 weeks ago, not sure he'll still do Fleche. If so, probably just as support for Gaudu.

But well, yeah, I don't really see Matthews as well suited to Roubaix as you, as I'm not sure he has the stamina is needs - but obviously he is unlikely to win Fleche anyway. So maybe it would have been worth a try indeed. With Durbridge they have a good contender nonetheless, though.

I often wonder if they do know what they're doing; road teams are traditionally conservative, and stick to what they know. However, Bahrain & Mohoric used a dropper post, so they're not quite so conservative.
I see EF are no longer using the Synapse for P-R, which is a shame; I've had two and they're a great bike for rough roads.
