Hopefully, the racing won't be too negative with everyone waiting then sucking Boonen's wheel. I'm reminded of Cancellara's race from last year. That guy had a tail on him the whole race.

The difference between sitting on Boonen's wheel and sitting on Cancellara's is Cancellara be beaten in a sprint. Sitting on Boonen's is asking to lose. I expect at least Ballan and Pozatto to try. Should be all sorts of attacks going in the last 50km.

Pozzato to beat boonen in a sprint.. I think boonen is a bit stupid when it comes to sprint and pozzato can out fox him again...

I voted for boonen though :S

pozzato only beat boonen once 3 years ago so he should definitively not count on his sprint otherwise he is setting himself up to defeat 9 times out of 10.

I think you are being generous to Pozzato

I forgot about Degenkolb. He can probably pull off something good in the top 20 area.

I think he will do at least top 10. He is in good shape, has power, and can sprint. I just cant see how Ballan/Pozzato will be able to gap Boonen. The cobbles arent selective enough. Ballan should get Gilbert to race Roubaix and take Boonen down. Then at least he would do something useful for BMC:p

News about Leukemans & Vanmarcke:
- Apparently the problems with Leukemans' knee are serious and they persevere.
- Vanmarcke sick (became sick on Sunday evening, so his performance at de Ronde was probably affected by the lingering disease). Hopes to be fresh again @ Roubaix. Gonna be close he claims.

I still think Vanmarcke put in a good ride regardless of the fact that he might have not been feeling good. I'm sure he'll have no problem bettering his 20th place from last year.

last week his heel was hurting, this week it's his knee...maybe it's true, maybe it's not. Last year Vansummeren missed the Ronde with a knee injury, one week later he won Paris-Roubaix. Obscuring the strenghts is part of the game.

Anything can happen, that's true. However, considering the odds, I'd put my money on him not riding top10 this year.

No sweat, Vanmarcke was gonna get a flat tire anyway. And just when he thought he might get back up front, supported by that chasing group including Hushovd and EBH, he crashes.

The poor fellow.

Boom was dropped pretty easily though in RvV ( Hushovd at least was working ).

Boom got a flat tire just before the Paterberg I think it was. Still he managed to get back in the front group and then yeah, he got dropped. Don't forget he was being ill for more than a week and there were some serious doubts whether he would even race the Ronde van Vlaanderen. Paris-Roubaix should be his race so yeah, some optimism/chauvinism (what a horrible world) makes me think he's going to do well.

I really wouldn't count on it. As a matter of fact I know quite some Dutchies are getting fed up with the eternal 'classic' talent, Boom. Agreed, he's already achieved nice victories on the road, but mainly in prologues such as PN and Dauphiné. Perhaps he more likely gazed upon the position of super talent for the classics than he's ever truely been in real. Not taking away the fact that he indeed is a man with great potential.

Concerning this year, I can see how he can be a 'dark horse' for some of us, quite frankly, but he certainly isn't one of the favorites for the podium. Perhaps that's the blessing he needs for succes. Because when you look at it, he booked most of his road-victories when no-one was truely expecting him to dig that deep, such as with the prologues. So perhaps he suffers under the pressure. I think the perfect example for that requires us to go back to his crossing time. As a youngster he joined the elite in the field and took the World title. He was superiour, as he was the year after. The year of the WC in his homeland Netherlands, Hoogerheide. It was almost a certain win. He was more like expected to win. Unfortunately for him he couldn't live up to the expectations.

Boom was recovering from the flu. He was on anti-biotics. And he was pretty much in front until he flatted at a crucial moment (first time kwaremont) after that he never recovered.

Anyway I expect a much better Boom in Roubaix when fully recovered (should be, it has been 2 weeks now since he got sick)

Are those Dutchies impatient teenagers? Or do they listen to Wuyts and De Cauwer a little too much? How on earth can you be considered an eternal talent in your third classics season.

They are sheer people on forums such as this one. I merely taste the atmosphere to notice that. Of course it's not the average thought. One must consider who cares enough about his own opinion to ventilate it on a forum. You only read the thoughts of those people. So unless we ask the entire cycling loving part of a nation to vote, we won't truely find out.

It sure is. Actually it's a miracle we sometimes produce some half decent sportsmen, there can hardly be a more demotivating country to come from :p
