There is also such a thing as media taking things out of proportion.

We always see him being quoted etc. etc. or 'announcing' this or that. We weren't all there so how do we know he wasn't simply answering questions and the journo has said "Chris White announces etc etc!"

you are correct. and i'm australian, and in no way perceive your comments to be aussie bashing. to their credit sky have gone about the big time thing correctly. if you are going to say it, then you better back it up and deliver. which sky has done.

You need a sarcasm smiley :D

THeres been a fair few video interviews, like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvqJ9EhKboU where he says they are pretty miuch there, and they are confident of getting a pt licence. Claiming the aussies are 4th in the world (true) but then backing it up with they have a bunch of aussies signed (but none of them responsible for the 4th in the world).. I actually think the guy means well, and has the right ideas, but is just a bit niave. "Without a pt licence we expect to do a grand tour in 2011, and a significant number of the classics"..

I like the guy, I just think hes a bit niave.. You only have to look at how vacon have struggled to get decent race invites, and pt status, and to be honest, they have made some of the races they have been in. Hopefully pegasus can get out there next year, get race invites and do what vacon have done, grab every race by the scruff of the neck, put men in all the breakaways, get noticed and get PT in maybe 2012 or 2013. I hope they do get some decent race invites and animate the races though, Its great having smaller teams that do attack, and vacon may be gearing more towards gc this year than their usual breakaway style.

I don't understand how people are "mistrusting" White?
People aren't mistrusting him. They're just not believing him. What he's quoted as saying tends to be an exaggeration of the truth, and several times now it's not panned out as he's said. It's a bit like Team Sky last year promising huge names then announcing Dario Cioni and Sylvain Calzati. I like those two guys, they're good riders, but they didn't fit the bill the team was promoting. Chris White obviously has a team moving in the right direction, but what he's been claiming is happening and what is actually happening aren't quite the same, so people are taking what he says with a pinch of salt. As well they might.

It's like the Tour of California, Team Sky or any of these other grotesquely over-promoted things. Look through the bluster and change your expectations accordingly, and you may well be satisfied. Unfortunately, White, like Brailsford and others before him, intends to vault to the top of the sport in a big jump rather than building from the base up. Because he doesn't have a solid base beneath him, he has to make promises and jump and shout to make people pay attention. That just comes with the territory, and Chris White is not the first and no way will he be the last to promise the world and deliver something that could be described as reasonably good progress - and subsequently be derided for it by some and hailed for it by others.

Wow, so I do actually miss out on something by not reading the Sunday Slimes?

Not sure, I don't think that Journo realised there was going to be 3 teams next year. Still, its amazing they're actually reporting cycling now. Still not going to rob $2 off me on a Sunday. :D

Are these stories just running off the ST article? 3 or 4 places have picked it up now and I'm still not convinced one way or the other that its Pegasus and not FlyV that's he's going too.

Yes, It says in the Perth Times that he is joining Fly V but arnt they co-sponsoring the Pro Conti team. But on the other hand Friburg himself was quoted in velonation as saying “We'll be racing the US next year, then the next step is Europe" although the article suggests he is going to join the likes of McEwen etc

All it seems is that Velonation quoted the comments and then embellished the story. I'm skeptical of this is just being a classic example of numerous media running with a story based on one article that may have its information wrong (which being Sunday Times, I wouldn't be surprised).

Heh, Michael was in the Sunday Slime again today. They had a small news bite on him. Turns out whilst training around Mundaring an emu started chasing him. :D

They referred to his team as Fly V Australia (again)...

You just can't be respected and claim you are confident of getting a pro tour licence when your best climbers are trent lowe and thomas rohregger!

This.

And regarding Freiburg, the article makes perfect sense. He will be on the US team - the second tier team, not the main team.

With him talking about Europe in 2012 means that the US team want to be pro conti in 2012.

At the moment:

Main Team: Pro Conti
Second Tier Team: USA
Third Tier Team: Whatever

2012 their aim:

Main Team: Pro Tour
Second Tier Team: Pro Conti
Third Tier Team: Whatever

Their 2012 aim is unrealistic at the moment. I will castrate myself if they get a ProTour and Pro Conti licence in 2012.

Where did they say that their 2nd tier team would want to be pro conti in 2012?

I think there is a fair chance that they will be a pro tour or a world tour team in 2012
