And easy to take your preparation for granted. Sucks to grow old but you get to work harder and party less.

I'm pretty sure Sagan's agent probably got him a guaranteed contract regardless of his performance on the bike. Who says he has to train more and party less?

I hope so. I have a student who contracted Covid in december, and since then she's been away four times a week with flu-like symptoms that she just can't shake. Right now she's on a light return-to-school schedule, and the doctor claims it's clearly post-covid effects. Ppl get affected differently.

I have first hand experience of how long covid can impact upon exercise performance. It can be a long road. My pulse ox readings were low for months after the acute symptoms passed.

It must be it. He cannot suddenly be so bad a rider, that he cannot finish flat stages in the Circuit Sarthe.

Sad. I hope this isn't how he ends his career, in an endless downward spiral. I wish I'd appreciated him more when he first came onto the road scene, instead of tut-tutting his antics like riding a wheelie across the line to win a stage of (I forget what race, maybe Giro?). Oh well. Hopefully he recovers.

Looks like Sagan is back in training. Not sure about his goals for the 2nd phase of the season, but it gives me some hope to see him competing on highest level again.

It would seem most likely it has been related to the post viral effects of covid, long covid if you will.

I just wish he will be able to asses his own potentials quick enough when he comes back to racing, so he'll be able to make sensible decision and plan his future. No Froome-style overlong leg-finding soul-searching drama etc.. Not everyone can take time and somehow get it right again at the right time like Cavendish.

Lots of pieces need to fall into places, and I don't know how many of them you can plan, to have such a resurrection. And Sagan won in a less methodical ways too compared to pure sprinters, so it's probably make it even more difficult.

Sagan returns today in der Grosser Preis des Kantons Aargau.
Wonder if he has any form at all? I haven't read anyhting about the expectations.

It's strange that there was very little press about his ride at Unbound Gravel, at least from what I've seen. I know there was an announcement he was riding it, but I would have thought there would be a big media / PR push about him being there. Maybe Specialized will do a video later, I am curious to see how it went. I do hope in the future, when he retires from road that he would give that ride a serious go.

He was around 60th in the "short" 100 miler. I think he rode it for fun and exposure for Specialized, just like Remco last year.

You hope Sagan takes a race serious after he retires...really? You do realize he has a "Why so serious?" tattoo on his side don't you. He hasn't taken anything serious for the last couple years. He's just doing the bare minimum to keep the sponsorship dollars rolling in to bankroll him and his entourage.

Thank goodness, I am not a follower of Sagan but I just came here to post because it is outrageous that this thread was still not on the recent activity page.

Can he win a stage at the tour? Can he compete for green against wout?
