Achtung Phil and Paul haters.

Take joy in NBC Sports coverage of Le Tour. Yes, phil and paul are covering the race for them....but there is no actual race coverage on NBC sports: it is all adverts and dreadful "human interest" pieces....and that's just about it. There just a few seconds of live riders.

It's been that way for years.
Was the same way back in versus days too...unwatchable

"Here we see Koen de Kort trying to make his way back to the peloton" The rider was in fact Cancellara.

"Michael Matthews won a stage during this year's Giro, making it a special debut Grand Tour" Matthews debut GT was 2013 Vuelta where he won 2 stages.

Phil: "amazing scenes in the Yorkshire Moors today"

The race was taking place in the Yorkshire Dales. The Moors are about 40 miles east across the vale of York:confused:

The only thing more tired than Phil and Paul is all this incessant whining about them. Get the bleep over it, people. If it really bothers you that much then turn the volume down. You're all such f@&king experts, you don't need any commentary.

Absolutely agree, if you pay attention to the race, or any sport, the commentators are useless. If anything, Phil/Paul oddities can occasionally be funny.

I don't agree it's whining about them. I see this stuff more as laughing at them. Let's be honest, that's ones thing they're great for. ;)

Aren't these guys close to retirement? I thought Phil only had a few years left on his contract.

Iirc 2years ago it was said he would continue for 2 more years, which would make this his last year, but don't quote me on that.

They said GVA was on the front for Lotto :) Completely forgot some of their other quotes.

Looking forward to the rest of the TDF with them :)

I for one enjoy the P&P commentary... for the non important periods of the race...

I mean some of the comments are simply hilarious.

BUT, when it comes to the end of the race i appreciate Matt Keenans ability to correctly call riders out quickly a whole bunch better than P&P badly guessing, spouting any sprinters names they can think of.

But anyway, it makes sense to me to rotate commentators throughout the stage much like cricket does... and give P&P minimal air time to explain the basics to the many many new watchers of the sport...

Anyway, at least he makes you feel like an expert when you watch with newcomers! All you can do is laugh really and hope next season they replace them... they cant go on forever can they???

dunno what peoples problem is with phil , i think it just goes back to the armstrong scenario which ok his opinions were wrong but then so were many of the peoples on this forum , i will hold my hands up , i was . anyway enough of that or i will get told off .

i think hes an absolutely awesome commentator for the sport of cycling especially when the action heats up , ok he may have a couple of blips now and then but i would imagine its not the easiest job in the world identifying riders at times especially when you get a camera angle shot on the back of a peleton or in a sprint finish when they are coming off riders wheels .

give the guy a break !!

P&P inaccuracies day 1

Yorkshire moors - it was the dales. Different places
Mispronouncing the river ure pretty much all day
Though Canellara was de kort
Thought GVA rode for Lotto
Though Astana were Russian
Told the world that Skipton was a 'industrial cotton town'. It's not. It's a medieval town built on the wool industry
Told us about the river Wensleydale, which doesn't exist.

I'm sure there were more. Just nonsense.

a lot of what you have mentioned regarding landmarks and rivers im sure 99% of viewers are not really that bothered . the lotto and astana points you make are sloppy mistakes fair enough but mistaking a rider on day1 of the tour is hardly a crime . hes still a quality commentator in my opinion and i would not want to listen to anyone else .

Phil genuinely thought there was a member of the public / imposter riding at the back of the peloton riding in a black jersey with red shorts, bless him (it was Purito in a rain jacket)
