Today some of the rubbish I picked out of the can

Paul "We are at the racing part of the course" and later "Greipel is going potty"

Phil "Sitting Cows is a sign of rain" WTF

'Going potty' means going mad.

'Sitting cows is a sign of rain' is a saying in Britain.

Bit of embarassment over where Wellington beat Napoleon but we all forget things.

Classic P&P indeed.

@SetonHallPirate - is that web feed available anywhere? I seem to remember there was an audio feed a few years back.

Go to tourdefrance.nbcsports.com and sign up. The web feed is, I believe $29.99.

calling this thread Phil and Paul is somewhat hurtful to the patron saint of all dementia patients: Bob Roll.

Paul is just truly despicable. I actually like Phil although he seems gradually ready to be one the dementia patients of Bob's patronage.

I am just relishing their never ending dancing around the USPS/USADA saga and are they ever even going to mention a certain Texan or not? It's the most delightful year of all for me. As for NBC sports, there's a probably another thread just for them, I know, I don't like some of their new reporters, I miss Gogulski and Andreu. But I will give the new people a chance.

Any time Bob's voice or goblin-face and Paul's voice is not part of the broadcast it's better than nothing.

I'm glad they aren't mentioning it. Enjoying the race without hearing about it.

It's a delight to know the agony they go through to NOT mention it.

was he going mad? and sitting cows is a sign that they should move to animal planet or the travel Chanel

Let's give them the benefit of the doubt. Answer me this; they spent the better part of the show yesterday and the intro today stroking Gilbert as the favorite today. Like a docudrama set up and imaginary storyline again. Then as the race progressed they failed to identify him once in the front group, not once. Only in the final classification list.

It was entirely reasonable before the race to talk about Gilbert as a favorite for the win today. Gilbert won on a stage with a similar finish in one of the recent tours, not to mention all of the one day races he has won involving that sort of climbs. Even though he has not been having a good season by his standards, he looked strong in the time trial and definitely should have been mentioned as one of the favorites for the day along with Sagan and Boassen Hagen.

Not exactly replying to what he said, in fact that really just supports what he said. Gilbert was a favourite, justifiably so, and identified as such by Phil and Paul. However, they still couldn't pick him out.

Greipel did look a bit mad the way he was going. Were the sitting cows being shown, if so, then its just a gentle aside, good to mention something other than 'X at the front, Y at the front.'

Im no Phil and Paul supporter by the way, just filling you in on a few phrases you didnt understand. Back in 2008 Phil didnt even know who Gilbert was after the results were published (he came 2nd in the first stage) so at least they recognise the name now, if not the face.;)

Could have been a bit confused as he isnt Belgian champion now. Who knows?

Nice job for the producers to stick with that. That was the hottest action of the day. Easily.

Why do they have to constantly talk? Constant stream of nonsense. They could cut out all the complete and utter meaningless **** they spew and take their time over commentating on what's actually happening.

They're always trying one up each other. :)

Nice little roadside quick commentary from Steve Porino on the cycling book "The Belgian Hammer" during the broadcast today.

I got excited for one minute.

I think that this is there way of condescending to what they perceive as the average viewer and trying to sound deeply DEEPLY knowledgeable.

Which probably works.

Unless the viewers have even just a little bit of an idea of what's going on. Then they just sound like escaped mental patients.

There are many people here in America that love Phil and Paul. I think these people like them because they like the sound of British accents, that they always express enthusiasm in their voice, and that they don't have long pauses in their commentating.

I, though, can't stand them for many reasons. They have no clue what they're talking about most of the time and they are way to biased to Lance, ATOC, anti-Contador, etc.

I remember in 2010, before the prologue, all of the Versus commentators predicted Lance to win the Tour and completely neglected to mention Andy Schleck as a contender for the race. And then, this year before the first stage of California, I turned on the TV and the first thing I heard was, "and the Amgen Tour of California has now become that greatest race in the world." I changed the channel immediately.

I can't stand them. They have to be some of the clueless commentators in all of sport. I sometimes think they're watching a different race.

Paul is obviously in love with himself and loves to hear his voice. He drones on and on about the stupidest petty things and ends up missing what's going on in the race.

This year, I purchases the Universal Sports package for the Giro. Gogulski is head and shoulders above these rubes and even his sidekick (name unknown) seems to know more about cycling. They call the race as it happens and don't constantly interject stupid b*ll****.

And don't get me started on Bob Roll. Another guy who thinks he's some master of prose.

I can't wait for Phil, Paul or Bob to move on.

Phil Liggett actually picked Contador in 2009 and 2010; Roll and Sherwin picked Lance.

Well looks like another season with Paul. Got fed up yesterday when he went on with that "Lance Armstrong style of pedaling" BS in the prologue. Paul, get a clue and realize that nobody wants to hear that and it disrespects the rider on the screen.

The Zabriskie vegan blunder was magical - had me doubled up.

Paul's finding form too:

"So the field is all back together... It is, as they say in Italy, 'Gruppo Compacto'" Paul Sherwen (in France)

Class.

Someone probably posted this but I noticed that Paul and Phil have stopped wearing their Livestrong bracelets although Phil is kind of halfstepping in that he now wears a yellow RoadID bracelet. Roll of course will never take his off.

Zbueldia had one on at the team presentation?

I think Roll wears a Road ID mostly now since he does the adds. The new one's, especially the one with Jens as the truck driver are funny.
