"When Mollema went Valverde and Gallopin really did nothing"!? Wtf! He had one, or maybe two, pulls at the front in 8km and he's complaining that others did nothing?!

You misread what Purito said. He meant that when Mollema attacked they did nothing and it certainly wasn't up to Purito to directly respond to Mollema's attack.
1. They just reeled his attack in before the top so he was dead.
2. gallopin and Valverde have a good sprint and had every reason to keep the group together.

So Gallopin and Valverde failed big time when Mollema attacked, certainly because Mollema made a "Zoetemelk" attack. He took the front and the others kept on sitting on Puritos wheel. When Mollema noticed that he went all out. Atleast that's what I think I saw happening.

I really hoped Purito won, but after they caught him I'm most of all happy Valverde didn't win.
I like Bala, but not when Purito is also in the race,

I read this on Katusha website "We are happy for the result of ‘Purito’ today as the last race he will do with Team KATUSHA."
So he retires after Olympics without ending the season?

Yeah, I think that's it! It would be nice to say goodbye with Olympic medal

I hoped to see him at least in some fall classics that suits him well like Milano-Torino or Giro dell'Emilia :(

No Vuelta :( I didn't expected this,so now all it's left is Rio.La Vuelta without him and Valverde won't be the same.Let's hope he'll be in the battle for a medal in Rio,he surely deserves it.

I am very sad he is not riding the Vuelta/Lombardia ...he has gone well after the Tour before and the pacours suit him...maybe he was reading these boards last winter where so many wrote him off..very unkindly I thought

I suppose the Vuelta will be Contador V Talansky at this rate :D

I think he's really finished with it mentally then. May have been thinking about retirement for longer, and only continued because of the Olympics.

This. He already thought about retiring at the end of 2014, but he didn't want to say goodbye after a crash-marred season.

And also in the beginning of 2015, it was an option. But Río was something impossible to resist.

I still think he'll do the Vuelta. Right now he's probably just trying to focus on the Olympics. If he wins Gold he'll probably retire on that but still...A stage win at the Vuelta is almost guaranteed. I'd even go as far as saying if Contador is dominant he'd allow/gift Purito a stage win.

Great race. He was the best climber together with Nibs and Henao. Too bad he had to bridge a gap of 40 seconds on Vista Chinesa. After that effort, he was spend.

And a medal in that flat final was almost impossible.

5th at the Olympics. Not bad for his farewell race.
Ending as the wheelsucker he always was.

I know he only has 1 weapon, 1 talent... But that's because he is weak. Always complaining, never pulling and rarely delivering.

Hater. That's absolutely ***.

In the team the plan was to work for Purito in the final. Bala was not in good shape, so Purito shouldn't work on the flat.

At the end, he bridgep a gap of 40 seconds on the climb. That's a huge performance. It's completely logical after that kind of effort, you don't have something left in the final. And especially not on the flat, which for a rider of his build and characteristics is not a good terrain at all.

And he was not complaining at all during the race. And he delivers always. Always up there. How many riders can win a big race? Exactly, only 1.

Did you watch the race - A mis-informed post.

He nearly outsprinted Alaphilippe in the end, so he probably had something left.

They could rest for some km's after Greg and Birdsong attacked.

And Alaphilippe started his sprint quite early.

But bottom line is that he had to use his strenght uphill to bride a gap, instead of attacking to get a gap.

Adios Purito. I'm going to miss you.

You won my heart most of all because of your great personality, for such a small guy . You were the best loser there was and unfortunately you lost too many big races you deserved to win. I'm also going to miss one of the most beautiful painfaces in the bunch. There was nothing like that face when you launched your rocket in the last km.

Adios Purito!

I agree. Nibali saw him coming and stepped up the pace again, he never had much time to recover. He still rode a great race on a very difficult course.
