Especially that Vuelta, hot damn, he was so good!

Valverde was better, he even lost time because of a mechanical or crash, not sure which one.

Let's not forget Purito was doubling up, whereas Valverde was coming back from suspension and soft pedalled the Tour (apart from his stage win) to build up form for the Vuelta

Valverde was extremely good as well, but Purito was hands down the best climber, but just had one off-day which happened to be be the day that Alberto striked. I wonder if he lost time on any MTF/hilltop in that entire race apart from Fuente Dé.

Nope, Valverde and Gilbert both beat him in a few uphill sprints and got a few bonus seconds, but he always finished with the s.t. as them, apart from Fuente Dé he was never dropped and often the strongest rider.

Yeah, exactly. Scary. I felt he could've gone faster when he was in the red jersey only responding before his trademark punch.

Rodriguez was dropped on Valdezcaray, dropped in Andorra, dropped at one point on Ancares (?). Contador was doing most of the attacking in the high mountains, but did not have the punch nor the stamina to take time.

Dropped how?! If you mean he's dropped for a moment, then he's back and then he drops his competition and gain time, then you're right

He wasn't dropped. He just knew Contador didn't had the stamina to stay away. He was the master of the situation: not only physically but also mentally.

Till Fuente De came :(

He showed for sure he was the best climber by dropping Valverde and Contador by more then 30 seconds on Bola del Mundo. He should have won that Vuelta :(

Contador deserved to win the Vuelta. But Purito should have won it. That's the difference. Should means he had the shape to do it. But Contador is a bigger champion, especially in the mind.

No, Contador should have won, and he did. Contador was simply much stronger on Fuente De.

.. while Rodriguez was stronger on basically every other MTF, maybe apart from Andorra where they got st. He never put time into Rodriguez on any other uphill finish. You can argue thats a testament to how great Contador is, but there is absolutely no denying Rodriguez was the strongest rider.

Once Rodriguez got behind, he went all out on Bola and put 45 seconds into Contador, If I'm not mistaken. I wonder what would have happened if he did that in the red jersey as well.

Awesome. I would buy a Purito bike instantly.

Bizarrely, I think this bike made especially for Purito wouldn't be replicated, he deserves to have a personnal bike who's not replicate, because it's his own career, it's an intimist bike. Difficult to copy some special moments symbolized by this present.

I know that. Just saying that IF Purito would be(come) a brand, I'd buy one.

I think Katusha begged him to do these races, because they have no real leaders for it (i guess Zakarin will not do them, otherwise i don't understand it). And Purito is a loyal guy, so he wants to help his team.

His form should be decent still. Not riding La Vuelta maybe does him some favour in terms of freshness.

Maybe it's not a wise decision, but i already had the opinion Río was not the right race to say goodbye. It's better for him to ride Lombardia in his final year. It's his race.

I will continue to support him! Vamos Purito!!

Great news about Milano-Torino and Lombardia. Would be amazing if he could win another Lombardia. Obviously a waste of time going to Abu Dhabi, but $$$ I guess.

He wasn't very good in his role as co-commentator on rtve's Vuelta coverage today. Was very dry and a bit nervous; didn't have much to add on a relatively dull stage; but I guess he'll grow into the role when he gains in confidence. Also wasn't great for neutrality, when in the studio there was Delgado in a Movistar t-shirt and Purito in a Katusha one. :)

Agree. I still think he has all the qualities to be a great commentator. He's funny, knows how to deal with the cameras, has an interesting view (his interviews after stages were the best of all really). But it's not easy indeed to be absolutely spot on right away.

So he's coming back for some Italian fall classics and Abu Dhabi. Please be prepared for Lombardy and win that...

I wish he were in the Vuelta..

Definitely... I rarely actually root for Rodriguez in the Vuelta, but I miss his presence. If there is one rider, whom I've come to identify with the Vuelta the last 10 years, it would definitely be Rodriguez.

Hope he will be good for Milano-Torino and Il Lombardia

lol that's pretty sad actually
i bet that katusha forced him to do these races if he wants to receive all the money from his contract.
