Purito - Joaquim Rodriguez thread

:D Didn't see the race, but I'm so happy Rodriguez won the stage. Disappointed I couldn't follow the Tour one more day and see him ride up Huy, but he gave me a smile after his TT so I'm happy :D

For him to reach the podium he still needs to capitalise on the bonus points and he definitely has a chance to grab some or win in stages 8, 14, 16 and 18. As well as all other mountain stages.

Let's hope he can survive on the cobbles, he could do alright with Kristoff and Paolini with him

Its funny how some fans following his today's stage win that was very much suited to his characteristics are talking about TDF podium.

Just wait for tomorrow. Purito, along with many other "smaller" riders will lose big time and this silly talk about podium will be over for good.

How is it so wrong to talk about him going for the podium when he has a legitimate chance
I mean there's Froome, Nibali, Quintana, Van Garderen who can challenge for podium. Contador won't get there, Valverde won't do anything, who else can actually challenge for the podium?

If he's in his best form, which I believe he is after his Dauphine and today beating Froome.

Before the TdF started I considered Rodriguez to have a serious shot at the podium this year. Things to work out for him well though, if he doesn't loe too much in the first 9 days that is. Yes that's a problem for him, obviously.
We still don't know how he will do on the longer climbs as well, but today he showed us an oldschool Purito move and to be honest that was quite long ago as well.

Not sure why I reply with a serious comment though since your pretty much a troll anyways. A bit like Ryo's little cousin.

Great job by Purito! The talk of his demise were of course premature. He's still got a bit left in the tank. If he makes it through the cobbled stage without losing too much time I'm hoping he can be a factor in the mountains.

I agree, that is a great photo!

Great to see him rebound from his crash the day before, such resilience. His experience can hopefully get him a podium.

Hopefully over Stage 4 and Stage 9 he can minimise his losses, but I doubt that will happen.

I don't know why people seem to think that the cobbles won't be a problem for AC too.

Last year he gave up at one point like a woos.

No, I'm not a troll and if your read my past posts in this thread you would notice that I have stated that Purito should focus on short uphill stages, just like today. He is good at those, no doubt about that but that does not make him a podium contender ... unless there is a carnage every day and another 5 or so "favorites" will crash out.

Top 10 if he is lucky ...

Again, I still do accept avatar bets for Purito podium GC

I was wondering how many stages he could win. There is a lot of these short, steep stages in the Tour.

Stage 6:

Stage 8:

Stage 14:

He should be a contender on stage 8 and 14, but is stage 6 too soft? If he wants to podium, he needs more bonus seconds.

Top 10 if he is lucky? So without luck, you predict Purito will lose more time on the cobbles, get dropped earlier in the mountain, and probably miss the split on the flat more often than at least 10 favorites? He has to be in a really bad shape - maybe like last year Tour - to be that worse than those at least 10 favorites, and I don't think he is. Who are these at least 10 favorites who are better than Purito anyway? What have they showed you?

Now I wonder who that is aimed at. :p

Moreno? :p

Great win yesterday. Shame that he lost quite a lot of time on stage 2, as far as his podium aspirations go. Hope that he gets through the cobbles relatively unscathed.
I just hope he can go on from here and have a half decent TdF. :D

Cobble specialist this days

Everyone is cobble specialist this day

I know, but i was afraid that him and Quintana will get destroyed today.

I worried about Quintana, too, but not so much about Purito, I always have the feeling that despite the lack of power and experience on cobbles, Purito has sufficient understanding of how to race this sort of classics-like stage of a GT, as long as he cares. His understanding of how to race a more routine GC-related stage is often more worrying :)
