All the articles I've seen just say he's been "linked". Which means squat. He's been linked to about 10 different teams and none of those happened. Is there something else to this story that I have missed?

According to this source, the team managment of Lampre have confirmed their interest in Horner, and they say negotiations are on at the moment.

I thought Niemec will be their leader in Giro, with Ullisi going for some stage wins...
Anyway I'm really happy if Lampre will sign Horner.

Now you mention it i remember an interview where Niemec said he wanted to do GC in the Giro, i'm looking foward to see how that unfolds, Ullisi could still have a free role as you say.

I would be happy if finally Horner has a team that suits his hight level as cyclist.
In the Giro, he has few options, the route dont suit him as well as the Vuelta, but is not bad, the ITT finally is quite hard, and there is a mountain ITT.

He is the favourite in stages as Oropa or Zoncolan.

But today people is going to look at his wheel, in the Vuelta in some stages people was more worried for other people...but the difference with the Giro is that in the Vuelta he was fresher than his rivals, in the Giro everybody will be similar, and the contenders will be really hard: Evans, Quintana, Porte, Urán, J. Rodriguez, Basso, Scarponi,...

Anyway, the big problem with Horner has been always the injuries, if he is Ok, he will be in the fight for sure, his brain an soul is all ilusion, and that is what matters in cycling, once you has reached your best phisically. If he would have been reached his best with 30, he will be clearly the favourite for the Giro, this way is just one more, even not the favourite, who are Quintana and Purito.

Horner put just 7 second in a similar ITT in Spain to Purito, so ITT is not going to be an advantage for Horner over Purito or Quintana... by the contrary, it would be a problem with Evans and Porte, and maybe with Uran.

agree with taxus. the best for chris is to ride only the vuelta a espana. he should ride races like pais vasco, cali, dauphine or suisse for the win and then peak hard for la vuelta. if he rides hard the giro there is no chance imo that he will beat purito and the others in spain
the most important is to have all his bones in one piece though

Good for Lampre, Good for Horner, Good for Us.

Been keeping an eye on the news for quite a while and finally Horner gets a PRO ride. Good, Good, Good for everyone involved. Especially Us the spectators.

Horner is a racer who adds excitement when sometimes races are rather boring.

If Horner does the triple I will only eat hamburgers all my life...I'm serious...:D

Niemec should be Lampre leader over Cunego anyday. He deserves that chance after all those years of hard work for his team-mates.Also what did Cunego done in the last 5 years ?

Nearly won Suisse. Was 6th at the Tour. Was 5th at the Giro while being the only one of the gc contenders to attack, which didn't pay out because Basso let Liquigas ride tempo all day for nothing.
