see...that's the story of his proffesional career in europe..mega talent but crashed everywhere..i still remember tour de france 2011 where in my opinion he would have beaten easily cadel and the schlecks...that didn't end well either...in this vuelta, the stars did align. at least next year i hope he will be healthy for some races.

I dont think so, he was strong, but the route in the Tour was quite different than in the Vuelta (although just one ITT in the end and no so flat), he need very steep climbs to make de difference, but anyway he could be in the fight with them and the others riders who crashed as Wiggins, JVdB, etc...

He has very bad luck, but he will come back and win something important again

The only rumor I know about was the Alonso one. Don't think there have been any other rumors.

What was Horner doing in such a wet and dangerous race anyways? At his age one slip and he could break any bone in his body. He needs to stick to the sunny races that don't include dangerous descent finishes like the vuelta. :D :p

Anyway, a broken rib isn't too bad. Should be fine for next year.

Hopefully he will return to action around May so he's nice and fresh for a tilt at The Tour.

And what else is his manager supposed to say? "With a really old guy who just won a GT a freakishly old age after spending the bulk of his career either as a US (or, in other words, semi-pro) racer or as a domestique, it's impossible to find a team willing to pay a GT winner's salary and base a team around a guy his age. Because, who would possibly be that stupid?"

Like Jens Voight, Horner loves racing so much that I don't think pay will be an issue. He will take what he can get like most others. Even if he does not win another race he is still a great support rider as Jens also is.

The only difference is that Horner is competitive while Voigt is more of a PR guy right now.

That's the problem. As he says in the Velonews interview, he wants the salary of a GT winner and a team that'll back him for another run at the Vuelta. He certainly could be a great support rider, as you say, but he doesn't want to go back to that role--or only have that role--in his next decade of professional cycling.

I don't know him that well, but i get the feeling that he is one of those guys who'll have to see he no longer got it before he believes it. It may sound like a bad thing i think stopping on ones peak is overrated, if nothing else because one never know exactly when that is.

Don't see how he's gotten the attention of the new Trek center of attention or formation, its all about the classics now for Trek with a sprinkle of Schleck because they're buddies otherwise they'd be out as well.

Just look at R.S. post Vuelta win, were there posters and hoopla surrounding Chris's win? How about an advert with Chris in the ad? (or did I miss it I don't read the commercial ad's any more than the ones I block on the web) I don't think his sponsor(s) is(are) particularly proud of his win. That should of been his sign. Then again, who bolts home post a GT win? No post race ride with the fans, a post race day with the press, a post race commercial? Nothing...
