According to the article Porte is riding the TDU, Cadel Evans and the Herald Sun Tour - I would be OK if he rode the latter two but this is a step too far - Anyway he will bring in the crowds and make Trevorrow happy.

Don't understand it especially after having done the Vuelta going into the off season. Must just like that training and racing block in Australia. Maybe his schedule after that will be a bit lighter than usual, who knows ?

My guess is he's given up chasing GC at GT's - Anyway it's surprising that a rider of his ability has no GT stage victory.

True. He has finished second a couple times, with the closest being when Menchov won in the Vuelta.

Michal Kwiatkowski is another rider who surprises with zero GT stage wins.

In fact, until Tour de Pologne this year, he had never won a non TT-stage on the WorldTour whatsoever. And that's a guy who had won MSR, the Worlds, Strade Bianche twice, Clásica San Sebastián, Amstel, E3 and Tirreno-Adriatico overall.

Truly a unique palmares.

I think I have only seen Michal go for a stage in 13 when he was in a breakaway with T. Martin and they attacked lm the steep part of the hill maybe 10-20 km from the finish and Michal blew up.
That break was more to gain time on GC than winning the stage, i remember Martin working almost all the day trying to gain as much as possible with other riders sitting in his slipstream.

Not many remember that but when he was at Quick-Step Kwiatkowski rode the Tour for the GC, 2013 was his best effort finishing 11th, then in 2014 he cracked and so in 2015 Lefevere didn't allow him to ride for himself. The funny thing is that at the time he said that he wanted to quit Quick-Step after not having freedom in the Tour but he ended up in Sky where he'll never have any freedom at all in the Tour.

Is RP whinier than usual so far this season? I know he gets interviewed a lot especially when he's down under, but the title of all of his interviews should be: "why everything and everyone sucks".

Like Cadel he was never really a good interview. Both are usually honest which doesn't necessarily mean great entertainment.........Evans seemed to lighten up a bit after he won the Tour.......a little.

Porte was definitely not as good as in past years in Australia which theoretically augurs well for a better season in Europe.
Or maybe age is catching up with him. He (also?) caught a cold after the TDU, apparently.

Only LRP could get a cold when it's 40C hot - the "Curse of the illegal Energy Bar" will never end. :)

I thought summer colds were always the worst ?

Having started his season in Australia before heading to the Middle East, Porte had been due to start his European block at Paris-Nice this weekend. However, the team decided to delay it a couple of weeks to give him a chance of recovery and he will now ride the Volta a Catalunya.

Volta a Catalunya begins March 25 th so hope gets into some decent shape before then as it's harder then Paris-Nice i.e. more lumpy stages. As for the TdF, I suppose the sponsors want him there, but ...

Probably a good thing little richie missed Paris Nice, the bloke always gets obliterated by cross winds and probably would have crashed out
I know, right? He won 3 of the 8 editions he participated what a worthless piece of trash I hope he reads this forum and knows hes crap.

He has won it twice, and yes, he would have been absolutely destroyed today and yesterday.

You don't see these conditions each year. We did two years ago. How did it go for Porte then? Badly. Has he ever been on the front echelon of a tough race? Not to my memory. Has he increased his capabilities in nervous conditions the past couple of years? Not in the slightest.
