He lost time on every mountain stage and didn't win a stage at the -08 Giro.

Anyway, back to Porte, I reckon that he will do very well at the Giro next year.
Still won by nearly 2 minutes over Ricco, who was charging harder than an enraged bull. Was pushed but rarely looked like he might lose control, impressive considering his prep was lying on the beach.

I'm 100% sure you didn't watch that Giro or you have a bad memory. Ricco won time on Contador in almost every mountain stage. I think he didn't lost a second in the mountains in fact. Until this Tour I never saw Condator beaten that way.

Correct. Bruyneel has Contador just follow. He barely attacked for the entire race.

Ricco was good at riding no hands up mountains, unrolling then rolling up his arm warmers.

Very stylish.

Ricco was also molte cool calling Comtador "beach boy".

And to think of the drab and PC cyclists we have have these days.

Bring back the Cobra.

We need trash talk.

Looking forward to Porte going full *** in a double grand tour stylee.

I actually thought he was worse on Ax3 than Froome.

So he should smash the Giro and then lead out Froome up the climbs dropping the peloton.

“Obviously the big goal for me next year is the Giro. I haven't really sat down and talked to the team about it but I think it's the next step for me,” he said, according to AFP.

“They want to develop me into a Grand Tour racer and that's hopefully going to be my first big opportunity to lead a team. I'd like to start the Tour Down Under, then Paris-Nice, I'd like to go back and defend that too.

“But come July I want to be there in England for the start [of the Tour – ed.]. I do think I can do a good Giro and come out and be good in the mountains

“It’s hard to say you can win it, but to be honest, I didn’t think I could win Paris-Nice either,” Porte told Cyclingnews in a video interview. “It’s going to be hard, I’ve had a little bit of a look at the course.”

To be honest, neither did anyone else.

Porte is gonna win the giro easily. He wont have any bad days and Quintana wont be able to drop him in the mountains. This is just like with Dawg and Sir BMW, when sky have decided they are going to win, it happens.

yeah but Sky's marginal gains don't work on rainy Italian descents

Angry young man Porte will ride through a brick wall in the rain to win.

He's good like that.

Would have been a one day man in a clean world .

In saying all the I fully expect him punch someone's face in for looking at him some time soon. He's on a powercut.

Reminds of the guy you haven't seen in a few years. You go back home and theirs some guys you used to hang out with. Some of them get well into the drug scene. You say hello to them and their paranoia takes over and they end throwing a punch.

Wiggins and Porte are scary guys.

Nibali more likely to crash.

http://cqranking.com/men/asp/gen/race.asp?raceid=17385

That was the submarine stage I believe (no descents though).

Ok he struggled on the uphill finish but survived all the descents. Pretty good result from Wiggins there too, maybe there is more to his 2010 than meets the eye.

I think thehog said it correctly:

Angry young man Porte will ride through a brick wall in the rain to win.

yeah, i mean, Porte descends much better than Wiggins. was more in repsonse to when sceptic said "when sky have decided they are going to win, it happens" which is mostly true aside from Wiggins' memorable performance at the 2013 Giro.

I don't think sky decided they were going to win the 2013 Giro.

In 2012 sky said it was neccesary for Wiggins to win every race from March onwards, in order to win the Tour. Same for Froome this eyar.

But in 2013 going up to the giro wiggins didn't win a race, didn't even race some of the ones he was supposed to (TA, Liege) and was clearly well below his 2012 level in all.

But sky continued to hype Wiggins up, getting a lot of press in Italy.

Are we to believe Brailsford who has worked with wiggins for a decade and won the tdf with him and later one with Froome, doens't know what level it takes to compete in a gt?

Come on.

Ay another thing to chuck at sceptics, they always say Wiggo and Porte only got good at Sky, they forget who he rode for in 09, same with Porte he rde for Saxo the forums fav rider Alberto rides for them, its only Froome who was not good at another team all the building blocks were put in elsewere, for what its worth it be nice see Porte win afterall you lot will have a field day(something tells me if Alberto Contador or Andy Schleck win the TDF by minutes the forum wont have any new posts, it will all go like this ah they took the borgs down, yes they did it anyone but SKY bla bla bla, dont you lot see the irony in that). Supporting dopers hoping they win against a team who we all think their doping, why you kick up such a fuss, were these boards like this if next year Contador turns this around and smashes every race? I think not, it will make the forums day a Convicted cheat beating Sky wont it? By the way dont think im saying it has to be Contador im not singling him out it could be any dodgy past rider and you guys will love it, which brings me to my thinking all along, it must be the fact the British flag, i mean why after all these times isit always this 1 team(that ries everyone up, you cant use the boaring tag anymore as Froome is most attacking rider), it must you dont like it that we have took over, jelousy is all it is you lot despise DBrailsford, why? The guy breads success.

Also dont the dude with the Garmin sig feel just a little silly he says come on JV this is not right your riders are getting dropped everywere(forgetting all this stuff about Hesjedal) What about Hesjedal then not much happening with that 1 on these boards afterall atleast they have broke doping rules unlike this team Porte rides for.

Me thinks if Richie Porte said i doped in 2011 but stopped yet had his most succesful time clean, which is what Hesjedal is basically having us believe, then this forum would go nuts, am i right on that one? So before im now attacked be it my grammar or the fact im not in your little sceptic club just read what ive wrote and youll see alot make sense, you dont hve to agree with everything but you have to admit things like whey too much traffic in Sky threads/riders is true, it just annoys me it really does.

I also don't hear Saxo or Movistar or Astana or even Garmin shouting from the rooftops for everyone to hear that they are the clean team. Look at us, we are the clean team.
Hell, they even have a journalist on staff to write a horrible book riddled with inacuracies and lies to let us all know.

I am almost certain no member of Team SKY/21st CENTURY FOX/
PINARELLO/RAPHA has shouted any such thing from any rooftop,
nor did they even join the organisation of teams that do.

Looks like Porte agrees with me that sky will only let brits win. Does that mean Porte is anti-british too?
“I think Chris Froome is the rider of this generation. I think he's going to win more than one Tour and it's unrealistic of me, in a British team, when he's got a British passport [to assume control]," Porte said. "To be honest, it's going to be hard to beat Chris, but in another team who knows?"

“Me personally, I think I do have the qualities to be a contender. I mean, I can climb and time trial and hold my own in the descents too. The ultimate GC rider has to be good at everything."

Has Porte already forgotten how much he sucked before marginal gains? Everyone getting greedy cant be good for buisness. Better make sure he wins the giro to make him happy.

If Porte is seeking lone Leadership elsewhere, the challenge will be to replicate "the marginal gains" & "the train" with the team of his choosing....

Yeah.. he sucked to a 7th at Giro, few days in Maglia Rosa as a neo pro and finishing 4th in Worlds ITT among other results.

If that is sucking, you clearly don't understand meaning of the word.

He was in pink because a long break was let go. Scraped in the top-10 as a 3rd group climber. Sure he could TT ok, but his recent climbing form makes no sense.

I imagine this is just smoke signals to Orica: Start loading up the $$$ truck!! I'm free in a couple years!

Smoke signals to any team really. Except that he should let his legs do the talking first and then let the mouth follow.

thats the interesting part, the self-awareness and the (almost clairvoyant) confidence of porte and froome. As if quintana and that spanish armada dont exist.
