On a stage that was a glorified sprintBYOP88 said:I do love that pre 2012 he sucked bug time on mountain stages. I'm sure everyone knows how he faired, but I did some checking earlier on and found these efforts from 'Super Climber' Richie.

stage 16 @3'41 MTT 94th
stage 17@5'37 87th
stage 18 @12'16 90th

stage 17 @12'36 64th
stage 18 @33'44 80th
stage 19 @12'44 55th.
So from this I can see no reason why Porte couldn't become the 2nd or 3rd best climber in the world. I mean in 1 stage he finished 34 seconds behind the leaders.

SaxonUK said:I hope not, though stranger things have happened. If he places on the podium who will defend the cleanliness of this Tour? Porte on the podium of a Tour de France? Clean?
manafana said:lets get one thing right if froome is dirty then so is porte no question their , IF
SaxonUK said:I agree, the performances of both point to doping, Porte maybe more so because at least Froome did similar last year.
the sceptic said:Disagree. Porte showed some decent stuff earlier in his career when Froome was hanging onto motorbikes and getting dropped on the flat in south africa
So id say there is maybe a 0.1% chance Porte is clean

I also remember him as a fairly useless mountains domestique for Contador in the Tour.BYOP88 said:Porte was ok in TT but not great, as for mountains even in the 2010 Giro he wasn't that good and would lose upwards of 2 minutes a stage from stage 14 onwards. 2011 he sucked badly and was beaten on climbs by the likes of Beppu, Ciolek and Russ Downing.
Ah, but next year Porte should seem less so because of what he did this year.SaxonUK said:I agree, the performances of both point to doping, Porte maybe more so because at least Froome did similar last year.

Galic Ho said:5th in the Australian national times trial! 'Whoopdeedoo Basil, what does it all mean?'
'Well Austin it means you're trolling AGAIN.'
Chavanel has won how many national time trials now? Surely you caught that info this week from Phil and Paul? Seriously you couldn't have missed that! Gonna start praising him.
What about Lulu who isn't even here this year! Know how many Spanish titles he has won?
Oh but Porte, whose ITT palmares compared to Michael Rogers at the same age is not a joke! He's the promise of the future! Let's not forget Evans doesn't even race at nationals! Did Rogers race that year! But Richie came 5th!
With that years form this year and Evans turning up he wouldn't even come 7th anymore. That is how much chrono talent there is Down Under. Or did you not realise where the major talent is? That's right, Rohan Dennis went home today.
But feed us some more stories about Porte. You're sounding more and more like his long lost cousin from Tassie.
BTW you actually meant Froome...not Porte. But when you're on a roll, a trolling roll, why bother with correct names?
