Watched many GT's in the past decade and a half? How many super-domestiques working for a race favourite (or contender) have had a chance to ride for themselves?
If he's stuck in that role for a year, and doesn't grab himself more serious results, his contract value could suffer immensely. Come late 2011, and he could just be another 26/27 year old with one win and a couple of minor placings, and a GT category jersey won in a freak 13-minute breakaway.
If he's a realist, he's unlikely to see himself as an aspiring GT contender (other than in happy dreams), and sees little benefit to his long-term career prospects in pacing AC up the first 5 km of every Alp.
