Bad day for Solovey, seems like she's no threat to the gold this year. Villumsen starting to look ragged but the speed continues to be unaffected, she's really motoring out there. Brennauer taking the climb in a Bert Grabsch gear.

Villumsen takes the lead
and the gold medal.
I think she's going to keep gold, but bear in mind Brennauer picked up her major time in the last part of the race last year, she was gaining time slowly over the second half - but the climb here I think will neutralize that... BUT... whoa, all three medals over 5 seconds. What a finish!!!

Finally she gets the gold and a rainbow jersey to go with her haul of silvers and bronzes from past championships. What an awesome ride and a deserving champion!!

That's awsome and deserved for Villumsen. Darth Vader would've been proud of that kit/setup... black bidon too.

Brennauer and AVDB look like they've been hit by a bus. 100% effort.

"when you are at this level, you put so much things into your body.." :p

who are the commentators, peeps?

go go kristiiiiin!

On eurosport it's Kirby and Matt Stephens, not the best on the women's peloton. You might have Rochelle Gilmour and Ant McCrossan, they do the UCI stream i think. Know their onions but not the most regular (RG owns/runs Wiggle Honda).

............................................

The start times are wierd. Anyone know how they get decided? I'd rather see the favourites ride closer together, which most are but not all. Odd. Maybe cos Kristen hasn't raced so much or something.

I heard two reasons:

Stream: Because the USAC coach wanted to follow each of the 3 riders so the start order was spread out.

NBCSN: The start order was based on UCI points and Armstrong has near zero points.

The start order was spread because due to the laps they wanted to prevent a situation like 2009 with Larsson drafting Fäbu all the way to silver; the selection also was to make sure that riders of the same nation were not going in the same wave for similar reasons (this may have been instigated by the USAC coach wanting to follow all of their riders, I don't know). This did have the perhaps unintended consequence that where a team has two major names one would have to go in an earlier wave (van Dijk and Armstrong both going early as a result of course).

Dumoulin will start anyway, but i think he is in danger. Tony Martin starts 1'30 behind right?

If Dumoulin is shitty from his injury or the Vuelta or a combination of both, he could be passed by Der Tony..

Then he'll use Tony as a carrot and still finsih on the podium. :D

Quick question guys regarding Michael O Loughlin of Ireland in the junior time trial yesterday. (He was 8th last year as a first year junior). He finished 3.59 down on the winner yesterday and exactly 3 mins down on 3rd for a medal. The bolt holding the front mech cable in place loosened and fell off on the second corner. He was unable to use the top chain ring for the entire time trial. I was just wondering if any of you guys know how much time this would have cost him and could he possibly have medalled. Seems to me that the time loss would be huge.
Heres a link to the story, and also his father tweeted just after he finished what had happened.

Australia are promoting Matthews heavily - suspect this means Gerrans is secret weapon:)

I suspect that Gerrans will attack while Matthews will stay in the pack waiting for the sprint, and maybe following a key move at the end of the race.

Tony or Rohan? My money would go on Tony.

The field seems more sensibly set up than the women’s race, can’t see that any serious contenders are going off early. (Not that it changed the outcome yesterday in the end.)

I hope for Dennis to win and would then expect Martin to finish around 5-10 seconds back.

With Dumoulin's injury I don't think he will come 3rd, I think Phinney or even Castrajevo will.

You guys think Rohan (or anyone else) has a real chance of beating Tony today?
