I'm truly very emotional about this. I love cycling, but, how I can I keep on loving it when such tragedies happen?

He seemed like a great guy, with a very bright future ahead of him still. Now that future has been wiped out. My heart goes out to his family, and actually to all the rider's families.
I’ve become somewhat numb to it over the years (it doesn’t shock me anymore). I didn’t see the Casertelli accident when it happened, but had been following the sport for a good ten years by that point.

Andrei Kiviliv, Wouter, Scarponi, etc… There have been more but those are the names that instantly come to mind when another accident takes a rider too soon.

Although this seems to have been an ordinary descent, we have seen an increase from the organizers to prioritize more dangerous finishes in recent years. I’ve never been a huge fan of descent finishes. Even for those not involved in the GC fight, if you are near the front of the race, you’re likely to take risks. However, it’s a part of racing.

Just read the news. It‘s truly tragic: Another young rider gone, it always seems to take the younger. A promising career and more importantly, a life taken. And it never seems to happen because of trying too hard, it hits riders who aren‘t riding full gas at that moment. It was probably caused by mismanaging an earlier accident, the most tragic of accidents.

If I‘m correctly informed, there is no detailed information of the crash but it reminds me of F1 driver Jules Bianchi‘s crash in the Japanese GP 2014: Bianchi hit a recovery vehicle that was clearing up an earlier incident. Although I would suppose Mäder was not as much at fault as Jules Bianchi, who was driving very fast.

I hope his family and the cycling family retain only the best memories. My condolences.

Oh no :fearscream::cry::tired:

I stopped reading the race thread yesterday after Ayuso won so had no idea of what happened with Mader till I saw on PCS the stage was neutralized. A terrible accident and my thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, and everyone else. After reading he needed CPR for 25 mins +, the medical personnel deserve a shoot out for doing their best on the side of a mountain. While not a pleasant topic, I think I can guess what happened in the hospital. :pensive:

Gino Mader was a bright star who tried to help and touched many lives with his kind heart. May he rest in piece.

I can't describe how much this news has affected me. With three major races currently taking place (Slovenia, Belgium, and unfortunate Switzerland), my focus wasn't entirely directed towards Switzerland. I followed the results and highlights, but it was only last night that I read the news about Sheffield and Mader being taken to the hospital. I opened the news, and somehow, I've had this impression in my mind all along that nothing serious happened. The article says that Sheffield is more or less fine, but it doesn't say the same for Gino. I started searching the internet in hopes of finding some positive news, but there's nothing.

All morning, I've been praying in a way (even though I'm not religious) that Gino is okay. However, I opened Instagram around 12:30, and the first post I see is a black and white picture of Gino Mader with his birthdate and today's date. It's a post from the Bahrain team bidding farewell to him. I broke down in an instant. As an amateur cyclist, I had a serious fall last year, luckily without any consequences or fractures, but that moment went through my mind again.

Those who follow Eurosport could have seen countless times that short clip in which Roglic takes the stage from Mader in the final meters of Paris-Nice, and Mader's genuine surprise.

Rest in peace, wonderful boy ❤️

Also if I don't know if many people were around, but my signature is a post from craig1985, a fellow forum member who was killed in a cycling accident some 10 or so years, and every time I hear about something like this I remember him.

I got info that Magnus Sheffiled and Gino Mader fell at the same time, probably because they were following wheels.
This is more likely than two of them falling at the same spot in different times.
This is not possible.

Mäder crossed the top several minutes behind Sheffield. Also Evenepoel and Skjelmose at the finish immediately said they saw Sheffield crashing while not mentioning Mäder at all because he simply wasn't in that group. I don't think there is any doubt that they crashed separately.
