He looks skinnier now, in early february than he looked at the end of the Tour last year. . .

And let's not even compare him to himself in 2012. . . barely looks like the same cyclist.

Don't know guys...I really can't see much difference. Those photos are hardly comparable, the first one is taken from strange angle and is rather distorting, arms are downwards, further from the camera. In the second photo his arms are stretched forward, closer to the camera. And only common visible body part are fingers and knees. And that's really not much to compare.

Obviously the photo isn't the best but for those who have always followed his career, it is enough to remember how he looked and to notice the change.

Either he was 69 kg's in 2012, 67 in 2013 and he looks to be around 65 right now. So the change is clearly there.

Look I like him too, but I just see what actually is at the picture, not what I imagine there is.

i will sound outrageous(as usual i guess) but i think rui costa can win the tour.
this year? only with a lot of factors in his favour but it can be done. he showed multiple times these last 2 years that he has what it takes

Check this interview he gave to CafeRoubaix if you didn't already. He dreams of winning the Tour in a couple of years, and feels like he can do so, if he continues to improve the way he is.

Interview to caferoubaix.com

Nice way to call other people biased. . .

Anyway his weight loss was confirmed by his GF on facebook in both 2012 and 2013 as it was on team's site and on his own personal site so ya, a product of my imagination

She also mentioned him being thinner on a photo of him training on rollers a couple weeks ago.

If Froome, Nibali and Contador (if he is back to old form) crash out maybe he can "fight" for the win(notice the ""). Considering i can't remember a single Tour where the 3 big favourites crashed out i think this is an impossible scenario.

What think he can do is fight for 4th,5th place along side guys like Valverde, Mollema and Kreuziger, JVDB and Betancur.

It all depends on how he goes this season. Ignoring the whole rainbow jersey curse thing, if he improves this year like for example Nibali did from 26 to 27 (between the 2011 and 2012 seasons) then he would become a much better rider overall as Nibali improved on everything that year, and the year after too be fair.

Man, what are you talking about? I'm just talking about the pictures, I haven't said single word about his weight so don't distort my words, thank you. That's by the way another example you reacting rather on what you imagine than on what's actually written.

Good job from the photographer to catch Rui's 5's turn at the head of the peloton :p
[For future reference, that's how you win your team mates I guess.]

Knew this one was coming here. :)

Just for the record, he was in the front pulling turns various times, including during the climb up Coll D'Honor and the following descent until near the intermediate sprint (where this photo was taken).

He also pulled a few seconds near the end trying to set it up for Modolo alongside his mates but that didn't came out well.

I believe that but he has built a certain reputation and that's why I found that picture funny.

according to lampre website he is now 63. which is insane. he alwqays used to be around 68. he better not lose any power from this. seems he lost more weight than ever

Wow that is really insane!!! I didn't check lampre's site so i was just guessing and i never though he would go that low!!!

If he didn't lose any of his power then his climbing performance could really improve.

Could? If he hasn't lost power then a 3-4 kg weight reduction would result in riding like 3 minutes faster than before up each mountain ;)

If he really has lost that much weight, he will almost certainly have lost power as well. His w/kg could still be significantly improved, though, but his TT should suffer.

If you count him and his bike as one. . . maybe :p

Saw it on PCS, must be wrong. Sky's official site says he is 69kg, which is still a lot in comparison with Costa. If 69kg is his true weight he is still heavier than the likes of VV and Contador, for instance, isn't he?
