I don't deny Rujano was on his limit. I also don't deny Contador is stronger.

I'm just saying that Rujano wasn't there because "he attacked before and was lucky to hang on until Contador decided it was enough".
Rujano answered multiple accelerations by Contador and by doing that he was stronger than the other 'contendors'

Well, why would anyone argue against Rujano for being second strongest climber today?

That's foolish :p Don't waste your time lol.

By the way, Scarponi needs some shifting lessons. He was cranking a way too big gear.

Oh I'm in full agreement on Rujano's strong ride. He deserves all the accolades that come his way. I was just saying that Contador wouldn't have gifted the stage knowing that he could get additional time on his rivals by winning the stage. Additionally you could tell he wanted the stage by how he kept looking back for Rujano near the end and gritted his teeth and powered through the finish. That didn't look to me like someone willing to give a stage away.

That's usually a sign of someone being on the rivet. Contador put him in the red and Scarponi was doing everything in his power not pay to handsomely for his mistake.

He did go into the corner kind of hot. That had to have hurt to have to almost come to a stop and have start sprinting again. Was that a slight downhill section because he went into that corner with alot of speed?

Additionally I would never compare Rujano to Leipheimer in terms of sucking wheels. That is the worst of insults. Leipheimer would never have been in that position anyway because he is very unlikely to ever attack in a grand tour.

That was after Rujano refused to work with AC--which I found surprising because AC certainly would have given him the stage.

When you're on your limit you can't do anything other than suck wheels. What do you want him to do, take a pull and drop himself?

I was impressed by Rujano that he could keep up with Contador. And I'm one of the people that will say Rujano had it in him to stay with Contador even if he wasn't ahead of the favourites.
I'm also pretty damn sure Rujano was giving all he could to stay in AC's wheel and I don't think he was able to take over from AC.
Rujano wouldn't have taken as much time if he didn't have AC working for him as well.

I don't know why everyone thinks Contador would've gifted the stage with time bonifications available. Regardless Rujano was likely hanging on for dear life and if the wind was as was stated, he wasn't likely to come out of Contador's draft for anything. What makes people think that he would've gifted the stage?

No offense to Rujano but what kind of draft if any would Contador had gotten if Rujano had decided to take a pull? It would've been like trying to draft off of a recumbent. Contador's 5'-9" and Rujano has to be at most 5'-3".

FUCCCCCCCCC YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!!

what an amazing day, rujanito shining.he will murder all of them in the trilogy of hell...except alberto of course...he's the great one...he can't be defeated

but seriously,rujano absolutely fuccin brilliant.

Good point about the draft.

I was just recalling all the times I heard complaints from big fellas riding behind me and that it was no different than riding on the front and I'm not a little guy like Rujano at least not in height. In all seriousness though I'm sure some respite could've been gained by Contador had Rujano chosen to take a pull. At the same time it also makes tactical sense to have your opponent spend some time in the wind if your intention is to beat them at the end. Let them share in work and misery of battling the wind, not that it mattered in the end.

Me?

To be honest I don't recall anything in the 2005 Giro that could resemble the current edition.

Parra beat him in both breaks (could be the way they shared the workload but I can't really recall if that was the case)

Tenda is relatively easy compared to Zoncolan. Finestre is 9% pretty much all the way without ramps.

Any particular climbs in Colombia that I should pay special attention to?

I do see that he crushed the field by a ridiculous margin there.

The steepest climb in that Vuelta a Colombia was probably El Escobero:

Rujano won that stage by over 3 minutes:

Is that the hardest climb?

It doesnt seem all that

I thought Colombian climbs made european ones look like road bumps.

Yep, the question was regarding Rujano on the really steep stuff, and that's the steepest. The classic Colombian climbs are much longer, like La Linea for example.
