That's closer than 'out'. I'm not sure the sound 'ui' exist in the English language so I can't think of a word describing it. The cycling podcast had an interview with him where he says how to pronounce it iirc.

I suppose that has to do with the sound 'ui' not existing in most languages. 'Ui' and 'Ou' are 2 quite different sounds in Dutch.

Yes, probably. Usually, I chastise people for not managing to understand how to pronounce the simple version of the Danish Ø, and now I fall victim to it myself...
Does the J play a role in the prononciation of his name or would it have been the same without it?

I think that the "ui" sounds appears a bit like the "ou" but without opening the mouth (or muith) as much.
Would you say the pronunciation in this video is wrong? (I hope Logic doesn't see it as it will probably drive him up the wall that the n is pronuinced (

In farmers Dutch the ij equals the German ei.

I don't remember this thread ever existed, so sorry if this has been asked before, but since it's Vuelta time, I think of Rein of Xoret de Cati and Picon Blanco, did the English commentator always pronounce his name right? And his compatriot/former teammate Gert with 5 consecutive vowels in his surname....how do we deal with that?

Tiesj is a Dutch respelling of 'Tish' because he's named after Tish Hinojosa. But it's pronounced Teesh

People with an account can contribute info to a rider page, i assumed this might be added the same way, but i just tried and after logging in, the option didn't appear. Maybe it's something only pro users can do?
