I cannot see how it would possibly be offensive, but silly maybe.

You might have a point, but it is much more likely the guy crashed. If we find out more information in the future, all right then.

Recent article on Henao’s crash. He was not by himself when crash occurred. A team car was following him.

People who witnessed the accident: Henao, Sky mechanic, Sky technician, driver of hit car, several volunteers at road crossing

Doctors involved: Sky doctor, Swiss hospital doctor/staff, Spanish operating doctor (?)

Small inconsistencies in the reporting of the story do not discredit the fact that the crash happened and a season-ending injury occurred. The suggestion that it was ‘staged’ to cover some wrong blood values is crazy conspiracy stuff.

So I read a report that said Henao
* had a stack
* broke something weird (who lands on only their knee?)
* was not going to ride again this year
* was doing 30 km/hr on his TT bike as part of a recon ride (who does 30 km/hr on a TT bike without the brakes on?)

Then:
* saw a couple of comments saying he was riding by himself -
* read the report and there was no mention of how he got to the hospital with help from team car etc.
* saw a picture from Tinkov show a busted frame, left lying on the side of the road (who leaves a bike on the side of the road? I mean seriously. Team car can't fit it in the boot? Volunteers were there - they didn't grab it? Noone else for miles, or there were other people, see a really expensive bit of kit, albeit broken, and just leave it?)

but then later I saw a report where he mentions the people (ie multiple) in the team car were horrified by what they saw as it happened.

Then saw a report where he hit a car.
Then saw a report where a truck hit him.

You know, it reminds me of the original Henao + Colombia reports I read, and the JTL incident: clear as mud and consistent as the weather in Melbourne.

So yes, I wonder if they are staging the accident due to something going wrong again with his blood, and having to bench him for the year.

Hence I asked for a post-op pic, like the one Horner posted, which I know can be staged as well, but, you know?

Apparently, this is either offensive (Beech Mtn), or silly (hrotha).

That is a LONG bow you are drawing there :D

How do you know somebody didn't take the photo while Henao was being peeled off the pavement?

If a picture is taken but does not appear on the Internet, was the picture actually taken? ;)

It just seemed a perfect storm - guy has weird blood, takes a holiday, gets cleared by team, races well after months out of the racing circuit, has accident away from TV cameras that removes him for the remainder of the year.

Cannot imagine how awful a broken patella would be. It's probably one of the worst possible injuries you can get.

I have to admit, if people were with him, leaving the bike behind is very strange. I posted in the member suspension thread but thought I'd put it here.

There was a story a while ago that included an interview with Ben Swift where he said they have to transfer their power cranks from bike to bike as they didn't have enough. There are a lot of expensive components, possibly the rear wheel etc. on that bike and while the teams have big budgets it's hard to believe that someone wouldn't just chuck the bike in the boot.

If he was on his own then that's a big question mark of Sky's management.

To be clear, I'm not accusing them of faking an accident or anything, I just think the circumstances are strange. It feels like the Schistosomiasis story, where we were constantly told different things, only it's happening over a much shorter time period.

i've seen sergio jogging yesterday. i stopped the car and asked him, hombre como va tu recuperacion? he just laughed and said ...dos anos, i will come back stronger than ever

seriosly now though get well soon sergio. it could have been a tragedy.

I keep wondering why one of their top riders would be out for a ride , on an unfamiliar course, by himself

because that happens all the time. many riders prefer to train alone

I wonder why none of the other Colombians or altitude natives don't have the same issues. Does anybody want to hazard a guess?
The sample of Colombians/altitude natives in the pro peloton is way too small to draw conclusions on that. Henao could be doping or his body could simply respond in a particular way.

I don't have the exact numbers but in the past years their number has risen considerably and we're not only taking Colombians. What do we know of altitude natives in other sports and from other countries?

Putting some pressure on Sky with a relatively old and known case? Why?

choosing henao is actually worst then any other rider. he already had problems and sky defended him at the time with a made up excuse. if he is found guilty, how can brailsford use the classic "we had nothing to do with this. the rider did this on his own"?

The most famous example is of course the Kenyan and Ethiopian runners from areas like the Great Rift Valley and Ethiopian Highlands - of course we now know that many of them owe their success to something a little more high-tech than thin air :)
