Sorry guys but you need to hang your collective heads on this one, why does the best of the Ladies pro racing get buried way, way down on the results list. The Giro del Trentino hides as the 13th race on your list below the Tour of Malopolska, where?? Furthermore, with yesterday as an example, the ladies are producing some of the best and most dynamic racing on any calendar, the winner Emma Pooley attacking 25kms after the start.

As the self - styled world leader in terms of cycling news and results don't you think the ladies deserve a little more respect and attention??

So true! I don't care about riders who can barely get up a climb and ride at 2km/hr.

I hope you're being facetious and not just ignorant. If the latter, how about you come over to England and join Emma Pooley on a training ride in the pennines? Or when you are in your 40's come and do a 25m(40k) TT in a whisker over 51 minutes like Julia Shaw? Or 50m(80k) in a 1.46? http://tiny.cc/kickACFalloverAustralia

Hell, come over and do that now.

Why not have women and men race together? After all, all genders are equal right?

Seriously tho, to the thread starter.. It's demand and supply. there is a reason why mens ROAD cycling is the priority of this website. It's the most watched (and as such, the most sponsored), the most exciting and most accessible racing in the world. Better than MTB, Track, BMX, Cyclo and Womens racing...

There's nothing sexist about it. Men's sport is more entertaining. Such is life.

i would like to see and read more about the womens races, especially the stage racing, emma pooley is having a great season, Nicole cooke is another who i follow and there racing is as exciting to me as the mens...

as a male watching ladies in tight lycra astride their machines is rather appealing...

it also a side of the sport that needs to be exploited, think how many more bikes can be sold if more women knew they had access to the sport.

One thing about modern pro game is how expensive it is.....and those feckin TT bikes are too much for me. Put them on the race bikes against the clock. why some ugly looking bike, what does that achieve, certainly not athestically pleasing to me!

More women please:D

who cares?? I'm not a pro cyclist. I want to watch the absolute best in sports performances and yes those are men. unless woman can ride as hard as men I don't want to watch it and if they are at man level then they should ride against men in a mixed sport like racing.

Well I check out the girls results often enough, but inner Peace's ppoint is quite valid. Womens cycling only makes up >/<10% of the market share so cyclingnews devotes about that much coverage to it. Which is fair.

But now I think about it i'd like to see Cyclingnews put the biggests Mens and Womans races in a highlighted font in the results column or make them sticky for a week or so. I mean like: Milan san remo, Paris nice, Giro, Trofeo Alfredo Binda, Unive Ronde van Drenthe, La Flèche Wallonne Féminine.. etc etc...
this would make it a bit clearer to a novice cominhg into the site that womans cycling does exist and its not just a male sport. But i think CN's coverage of the womans races is actually pretty good considering they can't make as much money covering them as they do on the mens races.

Wow, some unashamed misogyny under the guise of "supply and demand" in this thread.

Do you really think that Cyclingnews is morally obligated to put content that very few people are interested in prominent locations on the site?

Where did I say anything about that? I was responding to ACF's pathetic dig that women "can barely get up a climb and ride at 2km/hr".

And the obvious response to your point is you don't have to watch it so what do you care if it's on TV or not?

No I don't. People are obviously less interested in female cycling, but the reasons people provide in this thread are quite pathetic, TBH.

Some of them are pretty stupid yeah, supply and demand is legitimate enough though.

If Emma Pooley is lucky, she will get her picture in the "babes on bikes" thread. That's where Cyclingnews think women fit in in the cycling world. Some men wonder why there are no women in their local cycling club. Some men wonder why no women buy expensive bikes. I don't.

i'm all for more women's racing/cycling to be covered - the more women encouraged to ride the better. Nothing better than a few more toned women in lycra out there on the road/trail with us.

i'm sure if your girlfriend/wife/daughter was into riding and racing then you'd like to see her sport get some attention, especially if she was good at it.

they have sponsors too, who i'm sure would appreciate some exposure. we need sponsors in this sport and any support for those who support us is a good thing.

there really are some myopic folk out there...

No not above a certain point. Obviously 50% would be far too much given the demographic. But i don't know if it's accurate to say "very few people are interested in" womans cycling. It is definately not the case in the country where I used to ride Club races where woman would usually make up 1/4 - 1/6 of the attendance.
And the sad thing is, at the interschool racing level (13y.o. -17y.o.) it used to be 50/50, boys/girls so clearly theres more young girls quitting quitting the sport than young boys.
CN site probably does more good than some people realise at developing the female side of the sport which I for one find quite healthy for the sport.:D

Obviously some earlier posters on this thread prefer a sausage fest!

How do we know the demand isn't there? Some of us are very interested in women's cycling, or perhaps would be if we ever got the chance to WATCH IT. Apart from the Worlds, RAI's half-hour Giro Donne summaries, and Eurosport broadcasting a Liggett-commentated highlights package of the Ronde van Vlaanderen, three weeks after the fact, the only way to watch women's cycling is with incredible persistence, perseverence and hard work to find regional broadcasters and the like. The Ronde van Drenthe was televised on a local channel and provided some very exciting racing, with repeated attacking, and carnage from the group. A lot of the rules about women's racing (stage average not over 100km, 10 days race maximum etc.) are purely arbitrary limits placed there by the UCI. The women are capable of putting on entertainment; last year's Worlds were more entertaining than the men's event if you judged it purely on a sporting principle. The problem is that, with fewer events riders are less specialised in terms of sprinter/climber/time trial specialist and so on, meaning that the same names crop up at the top almost regardless of event. That doesn't mean the racing is any less interesting. But if you don't know who to cheer for, or you don't care who wins, it doesn't matter. This is the problem facing women's cycling. If you suport Cavendish, you'll get excited and fascinated by a men's event in which NOTHING HAPPENS. You could then watch a women's event (say for the sake of an argument there actually is one to watch) and see people pinging off the front repeatedly, solo digs, group digs, and all manner of things happening, but you don't know who the riders are, you don't care who wins, so it becomes irrelevant to you. It becomes like watching NFL Europe, or for the Europeans here, watching MLS - it could be exciting as anything, but because the presentation and the standard seems lower, you only focus on that.

Women's cycling is a niche market, certainly. But frankly, I'm pretty sure that there's at least as many people out there that care about the Giro del Trentino, one of the major events on the women's circuit, as a minor 2.2 race in an obscure region of Poland. Maybe if more of the racing was able to be seen some people might pay attention. Until then it's easier to just dismiss it as being somehow lesser without even knowing what it is you speak of.

Ditto. although a bit of nationalistic bias is involved.

Agree.. the big womens races deserve a higher positioning on the site than some pointless mens pro race.

Women put just as much work into their riding and push themselves just as hard as men do. If anything womens racing is on the whole more exciting with more riders on a level (and cleaner) playing field.

I'd watch the Giro del Trentino if it was televised in my country, I don't find it any less intersting than the mens races. But as it is, I didn't even know that was a womans race. The only time the woman get to race on the same 'platform' as the men is in those inner city criteriums or maybe Nationals RR once a year.
we're not asking for massive TV coverage , I mean as it is, the womans calendar only has about one tenth the races as the mens so, just, a good 1 hour coverage of some of those big races, and in it's own time slot not just tacked on to the mens coverage as then its always going to seem like an hors d'oeuvre or a dessert.

That may be a geographic thing. At the tour series here recently they had loads of junior and amatuer races before hand and one of the noticable things was just how many girls were racing, especially in the 14-18 age range (and riding some **** hot bikes). Talking to a few of the organisers of the clubs, and approximately 30% of their club riders at junior/u20 level are girls and its starting to filter up slowly. The under 16 races, and U13 races, the girls whupped the boys butts. At least One girl had to collect the race prize, and the seperate "girls" prize..

Yeah because the Tour de Beauce, Tour of Utah and Nature Valley GP draw in a really huge readership too.

Mind you, if CN were to cover women's racing seriously it would mean they'd have to take resources from transcribing fawning interviews with Uniballer, Hog and Frodo.
