Hope it's a clean simple break which he can recover from easily. Fingers crossed.

he broke his f'n kneecap. there's nothing simple about a knee. this might very well be careerending

I know that. I was just saying I hope it's the least worse case scenario. If it's a clean simple fracture, just broke in half, then he might recover ok, if it's shattered or a complex fracture of the patella then as you say it could well be career ending. If the cartledge on the underneath of the patella is severely damaged then you are f*cked. If it's the later he'll be lucky if he walks ok again. It just depends on how bad it is.

I thought I must have missed stage 6 crashed, but didn't see his name. Any news about what exactly happen?? His bike was destroyed, must have been some crash. was it bike malfunction or something? I hope a speedy recovery for him.

While out re-conning the TT course he was hit by a truck.

He doesn't really say much, mostly because, as he says, the injury is so complex it's hard to say how much recovery time still lies ahead of him. He estimates at least another 6 weeks before he can even go back to Colombia and hopes to be ready for 2015.

Thank you.

I hope he can finally put this season behind him. He is a rider I really admire and he can still be a very good asset to sky in the future. Maybe next year start small and see how his legs hold up.

I think this injury couldnt happen in worse time.He looked to be in form for Tour, and after Froome abandon he could win stages or even go for GC.

Rough summary and translation by me, I think there is a LOT of new information

He received the interviewers with his girlfriend Carolina and with Sebastian Henao, his cousin and roommate (who is also his teammate and was the revelation of this past Giro)
Before the interview, Henao had just gotten a visit from his friend and ex-teammate Rigoberto Uran & current teammate Xavier Zandio, who spend about an hour catching up.

How is your day to day?
at 10am I go to the gym and do cardio, I also work in the pool until noon. In the afternoon, I go around 4pm for physical therapy ordered by the medical staff. My girlfriend Carolina is always with me. I am fortunate that she is also a physical therapist and I owe her so much for the rehab process which is progressing slowly but surely to be 100% back to full movement as well as get me back to being a cyclist.

How long are we talking about?
I don't know. On the 18th of September I have an appointment with the surgeon & medical staff to establish my progression and current state of my knee. My knee broke into 6 pieces and they basically put it together with metal threads & nails
so it will calcify(?) and the bone will go back to its natural state. I calculate that I should be here at least another 6 weeks.

Will you go back to Colombia?
Of course. As soon as I'm able to and have the medical clearance. I want to follow all the protocols and not rush any process or procedure but as soon as it becomes possible I will
return to my house in Rionegro. I am conscious that this sporting year was lost and for the best is to mentally prepare myself for 2015. Thank God that I have age and vitality still in my favor.

Speaking of responsibilities, what happen to the driver & car that hit you? how has Team Sky helped you?

First of all and almost in an absurd decision, we were found responsible for the accident and had to pay a fine because supposedly we were not allowed on the roads to do the recon ride at the time, even though we were there with almost the whole team.
Regarding Team Sky, I only have good things and thoughts with them. They have been very attentive to every necessity, have covered all costs, are permanently in contact with me
and are on top of everything that has happened and will happen. I have nothing but thanks to give them.

Any critical moments?

Of course they have occurred but you have to rise above them. At the beginning of the season y had to suspend all competitions due to instructions from the team and
collaborate in a series of tests and exams in Colombia and later, when everything was ready for a run at the Tour, this accident happen.
I was in a great place, both condition-wise and stamina, now look at me, first in a wheelchair, and later with crutches, causing me to have low morale and your emotions also change
but at the same time I know I have to rise above it all if I want to return to being competitive and I'm sure I will get there.

What do you think of Colombia in the Vuelta a Espana?

I am following it closely and I feel extremely bad with Nairo's fall and him pulling out of the race, which shows once again that cyclist are exposed at any moment to accidents.
I hope he can continue to pedal and I'm sure he will return very soon to fight for top placing. It gives me joy to see the huge progress from Rigoberto at the TT
and also the overall progress from Winner Anacona.

And...Froome, your teammate?

Maybe he hasn't found his ideal form on this first half of the Vuelta but I'm confident that he will continue to fight for the podium on the rest of the vuelta, which is very hard.

How do you project you future?

With lots of faith, aspirations and motivations. Faith in God and my complete recovery, Aspirations to return to competition to level hopefully even higher that I have so far experienced
and motivations to go back to pedaling very very soon, even if its on a stationary bike. For now, I live my life like I'm forced to and have full confidence on a much better future than this 2014.
I am thankful of the company of friends, fans, family, like Carolina who I owe so much to and Sebastian who has been my counsel and company while being away from everyone.

Any news about Sergio ? Last one I read was a picture with him riding a bike again from December. Anyone know if he's going to be ready for the beginning of the season ? Or his comback might be postponed ?
