They pulled the article.

But I just heard this:

There will be an announcement on Monday that Armstrong is under official investigation and will face US Federal probe. He will be asked to return to the US for questioning.

Sports Illustrated will also print an online story spanning several pages into all of the Armstrong investigations over the years and join some of the dots on the information we now have from Landis. Apparently there will be some big revelations.

The plot thickens.

Burn UCI, Burn! And quickly, please. I'm thirsty.

The Garmin statement was the change in the wind. Enough evidence has now been collected to start formal proceedings. This why everything has gone silent. They are waiting for the annoucment. This time they are scared. Before it was easy to say "we're clean" but they don't want to lie to these guys.

Even the UCI has changed it's approach. Not enough but it's building
it's own defence.

Yeah, but will going after Lance for fraud really clean the sport? There has to be some serious fallout outside of LA and this doesn't seem like it will be. Too bad. So Lance gets done and USPS becomes a retroactive Festina... I'm keeping the vintage port tucked away for now...

Welcome back. There will be considerable fallout from this if Lance is forced to give up individuals at UCI, any of the WADA/UCI labs, etc. It's not about Lance. He just happened to be a part owner of the team that took US funds and used them, in part, to buy and distribute controlled substances possibly in the US and abroad. If someone else was the part owner of a team that took US funds and used them, in part, to buy and distribute controlled substances, they would be the focus too. It sucks to be the center of attention all of the time, but that's what happens when you make everything revolve around you.

Hypothetically, if you were Lance what would your plan be now?
I don't mean admit everything, paint the Hog black, go on Oprah and beg for forgiveness. I mean, since most here think he's guilty but very cunning, what will he actually do to come out of this as best he can?
We've all seen his past moves, we have some idea of where he wants to go next in life and career etc., and he is undoubtedly an incredibly determined fighter. Any predictions? Maybe there should be a prize for the prediction that most closely resembles the slowly appearing A.R.S.E (Armstrong Reverse Scandal Enterprise).

Thanks for the welcome, Publicus.

I really do hope there is fallout and the corrupt old guard gets its due. But what happens when all is said and done? Oh crap, I've become a cynic.

Will overhauling the UCI help to make better testing etc? Cycling needs to be cleaned at the top and the grassroots, imo. I don't see this probe stopping the doping problem, but I guess it will be a good kick in the ***.

"I'm guilty, we're all guilty. Come on everyone, lets man up, I'll take the lead and be the new face of honesty"

I guess I'm not that cynical yet... (please don't laugh too hard at my message; sorry if you spit something up!)

Flandis and Bahati should be sponsored by fans like me who are so happy to have these revelations, and the dopers that are being busted by them, can't we all chip in 10 or 20 bucks to sponsor his team? Maybe hot sauce maker "Burn Baby Burn" can be the main title sponsor on the jersey...

Uhm, isn't it better to keep the LA talk out of here, I'm just realizing this now, but the new scandal should be something else, or it isn't a new schandal.

Uh, yeah. Nice try. Federal investigators are not exactly in the habit of announcing who is under investigation, and, as has been pointed out, Monday is a holiday.

If you follow the Aussie link, the "announcement" will be by SI on their online site, not the US Gov.

Regardless, it's still not a "new" scandal...

And it's doubtful SI is going to beat NYT on a scoop.

Our anti-Hero would be living a charmed life if this stuff hit the fan over a holiday weekend.

Plus the nba semi's are still front page of our sports news. The worst case scenario for him would be if the news of this (if true) held off until Wednesday.

SI is not the place to go for breaking news, but when it comes to a deep and penetrating 5000 word expose, they are quite good.

And on a side note, their sports photography is truly second to none.

On the OUCH/Bahati angle, they keep saying that Floyd ruined the team, but do not say how.

maybe he refused to ride dirty? or maybe he just wasn't any good with the new hip and/or personal issues, clean or dirty?

SI is not breaking any news.

Its releasing an investigated study of the details released by Landis and overlaying them on the events of past to draw some interesting conclusions.

If you misquote me again I’ll leave this forum. Got it?

The article states it was financial and had nothing to do with Floyd. If Landis didn't come out the same events would have taken place. There was no money to begin with.

Rahsaan was out at our club-sponsored race on Sunday and was not too happy about the whole Floyd thing. He didn't make any comments or want to even discuss it with the locals, but he was unhappy nonetheless.

It may well have been primarily the money, but I'm guessing recent events would have strained that relationship even if the money WAS there...

I'd keep my mouth shut to the investigators, keep it open to the press, ride in the tour, and wait and see what nowinsky comes up with.

Doping and cheating will undoubtedly INCREASE.

Lots of people will copy cat Lance.
"If Lance can cheat, so can I" as a justification.
"Doping will win ya 7 TdF's? Sign me up" numbskulls.

If Doping in Pro Sports ever becomes "legalized", the Lance Bust might just end up being viewed as the start of the process. Lance as a current day "Norma Rae" for the bread and water Grand Tour Workers of the World.

Expect to see/hear some articles/discussions about "why don't we just legalize sports doping" after Lance gets brought down....maybe even before he gets brought down...

I bet there will be lots of interest in EPO buying across the interest. People will believe they too can now win the Tour de France, it's that easy etc.
