from what I've read lately, he's experiencing short lapses of conscientiousness with abrupt awakenings, to which the doctors try to control and put him back on rest, but other than that- is pretty much what jens_attacks has written: a very slow recovery....:(

just some guy said:
no but pretty normal for head trauma - it not like in film where they wake up and then smile and get on with things
i know, but...

i guess i've been anxious for good news and showed my true impatient self

It sounds like his prognosis is still very uncertain. The human body, brain, and spirit are amazing so I remain hopeful for a strong, if slow, recovery.

Thanks to those of you who've been updating this thread. Translation software doesn't work well for medical updates.

Get well JMS!

I would agree with that. At least he's improving a little. Considering his age, and overall level of fitness, he's got that working for him.

On Sporza: "Doctors can't communicate yet with Soler"

His injuries are healing well, but Soler is still unconscious. He is breathing on himself but aside from that there is not much brain activity. :( Seems he is kinda living as a vegetable at the moment

I wouldn't take it that far. His wife said he could wake up at any time, or it could take days or even weeks, but there were positive signs every day.

Here's a brief interview with his wife from Revista Mundo Ciclistico: http://www.revistamundociclistico.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=9990&Itemid=74

He had surgery to remove a blood clot (I think - perhaps a native Spanish speaker could check this) today. The doctors are quite reserved about his prospects as they do not want to encourage false expectations, but expect him to recover and are surprised by his vitality. She also thanks Movistar and all those who have shown support for Soler through social networks.

I think it sounds as if it will take a while for his body to heal enough for communication and activity...calling him 'vegetative' would not seem necessary at this point.

Only two weeks after horrible trauma it may seem more reasonable to think that this will take a long, slow recovery process, but at the same time he is strong and fit and young so that is really in his favor.

We all wish him well.

Movistar say he's breathing on his own, responding well to stimuli and will be moved to Spain soon. Good man Soler
