Contador got dropped today. Call it strategy, whatever...He couldn't hold Schleck's wheel.

This isn't directed at you, but the amount of Armstrong hate in this thread is some kinda' goofy. All I can do is laugh at most of the criticism of him. 'Wheel sucker' is one of the more inane criticisms I've seen. Geebus, Big Mig 'wheel sucked' his way through five tour wins.

As for the doper claims. Meh, whatever. One might as well dig up the bones of Merckx and Indurain also. They have the same cloud hanging over their heads- not to mention some of the notables riding in this tour: Basso and Vino come to mind. While we're at it, throw Contador in there. He fits the doper profile as well as (if not more than) Armstrong IMO. That's not to condone doping. I just wanted to add some balance to some of the silly comments I've seen.

Well, I'm not sure if he went down in the first crash or not. There's a radioshack rider doing a goofy flip down a grassy hill that has been said is Lance... it was similar to the 3rd "incident" where the wheel got caught with a rider who did crash when almost stopped and the bike started going over. If that was him though... definitely counts as a crash... even if it was a low-speed goofy-looking one.

As for the 3rd... I'm not sure what you call it. He hopped off his bike before it went down, so he landed on his feet instead of on his hip. Everyone in front and behind hit the pavement.

What would you call that if not a crash? A non-rider, bike collision with a dismount?

No, the goofy flip is Chris Sorensen from Saxo Bank. Lance didn't touch the ground on the first "crash". Neither did he touch it on the 3rd "crash".

The point is biomechanical advantage can come in different size packages. Top that with high anaerobic threshold, superior recovery ability, etc...Those are some of the most prominent physical traits that make a great rider.

I was actually just talking about this year where Armstrong was one of the largest of the GC contenders, the "former" refereed to him not being in contention anymore, not to a broader historical context. Still any disadvantage LA has from the heat clearly isn't large enough to explain getting dropped that early.

I think it just points out how competitive it was yesterday....I don't know if I imagined it or not in yesterdays finale, its possible and probable its already been discussed somewhere on here, but I was pretty sure I saw Contador turn around and put Jurgen in his place....But he didn't say anything about that....

Usually its an Aussie falling off 3 times in a stage. Probably the worst day in any le tour for Lance, very hard work.

It is a common strategy to have a stooge ride in front of a rider who is a threat, ruin the rhythm, plead stupidity as in this case. Nothing new in that, whats a bit different is the cry baby complaining about being told to get the **** out of the way. Should have had a 1.5 litre bidon thrown at the back of his bonce, that usually works.

Knowing the next day was a rest day, the GC is about what you would expect. Only bonus was Evans getting back up and not losing time. He wont defend the yellow, too early, just ride his own race.

GG WP no rematch, Lance Armstrong.

If the time loss was trully because of the pain and unability to recover from the crash so short to the hardest climb of the day, which sounds reasonable to me, I bet he's eager to show us he can climb with the best in some heroic stages given the champ he is... Yet again, maybe he just wasn't good enough.

Best stage so far on so many fronts:
JUst demonstrates how lucky armstrong was to put 7 together - his riding wasn't lucky but his lack of misfortune sure was. He looked like Indurain when he was busted on his last tour (by Riis i believe). So much for his call 2 years ago that the riders were a bunch of amateurs and that he would have won. Wasted a lot of money on a good team they might as well go home.
Contador is human.
Schleck has improved lots from last year (his legs and arms are even skinnier).
Wiggins race is over - he can thank his team who obviously think he is better than last year - they did more damage to him than to the other contenders.
Evans will probably have to do something special to win.
Alex Vinokourov is still crazy - off the back one moment and down the road the next.
And what about Kloden? Maybe he has gone out in sympathy for lance - he must have been able to see it yesterday when he cheerily waved goodbye to the peloton as he slipped out the back.

If andy can keep looking fresh he will win. Long way to go.
