What about those who have already given testimony against Lance (only in another context)? These people could surely be used now? Maybe even Lemond will get a call up? I'm sure he wont need to be asked twice lol ...

I just thought I might quote myself.

I rule.

Betsy and Frankie? They do nothing for what is going on in this investigation. Lemond might not offer much either.

aftermath

Overjoyed at receiving a subpoena. I'm guessing that is different than LA's feeling now.
Why would Greg and Kathy be overjoyed? Because Greg was personally cheated?
To me it is curious that Greg and Kathy are overjoyed. We will never know what he says when he testifies.(which in my opinion is good) Overjoyed. In about 5 years in the aftermath of this investigation the devestating effect on American cycling and the proliferation of doping from riders of other countries, I think Kath and Greg shan't be so overjoyed. My opinion.

Look on the bright side: now you have two adjectives for Lemond, bitter AND overjoyed.

Silver lining in everything.

This time is very different as no doubt in the case of Betsy and Frankie, the doctors who were in the room at the same time will be found by the feds and they will corroborate what the Andreu's testified, LA's admittance to large use of PEDs.

LeMond's case (that he always stated that he PED's) against Armstrong looks a lot rosier now that all the conflicting statements that are flying around now.

'Just a Rider' is contradicting himself everyday.

The only people as Ullrich said "that can't put 1 and 1 together to make 2, cannot be helped"....

I find it hard to believe that if Armstrong did tell the Doctors that he had used PED's that that information did not make it into his medical records. Its not like Lance could have offered them a bunch of money to cover it up. At that time Lance was still trying to figure out how he was going to pay his medical bills and how he was going to support himself. Lance was not a well known person outside of the cycling world.

Put yourself in the room in LA shoes, you have serious cancer and they are asking you questions to try and find the reason why and this information may contribute to saving your life. Nah, don't tell them. Of course you tell them everything. you are not thinking then about coming back to cycling and winning the TdF, you are thinking about survival.

as for the file and the doctors, disappeared and the day after the case in which LA walked a magical 1.5 million dollar was made from LA to the hospital....

if you cannot put 1 and 1 together to make 2 i cannot help you.

There is lots coming together. Trek and Armstrong formed a conspiracy to defraud Lemond, a whole raft of people probably willing to testify that Armstrong doped - including his wife. LA role in team doping, in managing the team along with the Hog. It is all coming together. His team certainly was the best organised in the peleton and I am sure had the very best doping regime. He was the king and imposed his will and regime because his image counted as money and he was / is ruthless.

So comes the relationship with the US cycling, the UCI, possible attempt at bribing someone to frame Lemond, what role did Armstrong have in removing Patrice Clerk from the TdF - we all suspected that Armstrong was the reason Clerk had to go but did he have a role in it?

I can see some taken out by this investigation, perhaps they will get LA and or the Hog but we need USA cycling cleaned out, the UCI sorted, doping removed from UCI control, ASO cleaned out from its current toleration of doping / LA in cow tow to money. ASO has too much power in cycling - we need effective counter balances.

These later will be harder and require national bodies to put cycling before money and the results at all costs mentality.

That will be harder.

There is one political driver that might make this investigation work. If the US justice system can take down someone as publicly important as LA then it shifts the light from its failure to challenge the major corruptions. So it just may drive this hard and throw LA to the lions. Here is hoping as the harder LA is hit the greater the chances of reforming the wider cycling bodies.

Armstrong was set financially after he won worlds. And Cofidis were paying him half. Plus the Oakley owner managed to secure the insurance for Armstrong for the bills. Ignorance, it is a virtue of yours.

Your post sums it all up very nicely, I think. You've pretty much put it in a nutshell. If we use the cancer metaphor, taking out Bruyneel/Armstrong will eliminate major tumors, but many cells can be found in, as you said, the wider cycling bodies. Those must be addressed, and I trust they will be.

I think he had a 2 year, $2 million contract. He was paid 667k for one year and they mutually terminated the contract in '98 when he went to USPS. Could be wrong, but Cofidis could have requested a physical and LA would have gotten nothing.

i think david walsh tell a different story, not sure if it is in his book, but basically cofidis were very supportive of LA during his cancer and said they would wait and he basically fúúked them over and grabbed a large paycheck at the same time off them, although he tells it in his booked that they treated him badly and didn't want to know, But the DS came over to the states to see how he was doing...

there is a great David Walsh interview on an american radio station and i cant find the link to it now, 2 guys do the interviews, 1hr+ long with cyclists and other top sports stars. Lemond aswell. will keep looking and post. but some great listening.

edit: found it http://competitorradio.competitor.com/?s=walsh

great stuff.

I wonder if Lance wishes he had just paid off Landis or let him race or whatever he wanted. Would have been a lot cheaper.

Still not sure how this all goes down without a smoking gun (I guess 99 TDF samples might work).

So then you're saying that aside from his regular salaried earnings, he must have blown through the entire $1M bonus he took home for winning the so-called U.S. "Triple Crown" a couple of years prior?

You must know this because you read it in one of those ridiculous Lance promo pieces masquerading as a book.

Maybe he had already helped Landis before and he felt like the blackmail would go on forever so he just said no and took his chances?

I don't think he has a choice.

Grand jury subpoenas were issued to potential witnesses in the probe this week in a move that demonstrates how seriously the authorities are taking allegations made by Landis.

LeMond, along with several of Armstrong’s former teammates, is one of several witnesses who has been issued a subpoena. He said he has “yet to decide” on whether he will go.

Greg LeMond says probe could ‘end’ Lance Armstrong

I wasn't aware that you can 'decide' whether to go or not.

Well, obviously, you may not show up, but how stupid would you be to do that?
