Haha, these are the handful kind of people who say Pogacar isn’t better than Merckx already. The same people—nostalgia has taken over their brain—are incapable of looking forward, objectify common sense, have no idea what’s going on around them, and literally think the world stands still.

I’m sure the same guy believes the T-Ford is better than Bugatti Chiron too if asked, while simultaneously needing help to operate his phone half the week. Absolutely hilarious.
But why always do the comparison from a presentism lens? Why not ask, how would Pogacar fare against Merckx in his era, with Pog using 1960s-1970s bikes, training methods, diet, coaching, superstitions, and secret sauces? If you always frame the debate as how would Rider X from the past fare against Rider Y in the current peloton, then you are always biasing it in favor of the current rider.

He just comes from a different mentality, a way of life that's incompatibile with the milder tone (doubtless he would say hipocrisy) of today.
Nah, I think RDV is detracting from his own aura. Its a simple matter of showing respect. There were plenty of Flandrians before and after this guy. Sure he has a great record and beat Merckx in some classics and monuments but he never won a world title and didn't win grand tours like Pogacar. Its a simple matter of showing respect.

RDV is just a brash Flandrian. I wouldn't get all worked up about it, rather just enjoy the entertainment. Rest asured, if he were racing today he'd benefit from all the advancements and play the game like everyone else. He just comes from a different mentality, a way of life that's incompatibile with the milder tone (doubtless he would say hipocrisy) of today.
Like I said earlier: so is Pat for example. But I don't mind him. RdV just never, ever shows any respect to riders that raced after him. He only tries to downtalk their performance.
You never see Merckx or Hinault or whoever talk like that. It's not a generational thing: he's just a ***.

Pogacar and MVDP are seemingly just so far clear of the field that only bad luck can prevent one them winning Flanders.

I don’t think today changed much in my mind about what might happen next Sunday.

Would be interesting to know what the sector times were for Pogacar RVV 2023 Kwaremont compared to MVDP today.

I got the sense that MVDP went flat out on Kwaremont as a tester to see what he can do and what he will need to do to live with Tadej when he lifts the intensity.

We need to see UAE attacking a lot before Pogi going, and VDP having to cover the attacks.

If he lets UAE riders go, Pogi will cook him, attack and use those riders to pull for him.

UAE needs to put a lot of pressure in this race. No excuses. No mercy. Just a bloodbath and a lot of corpses in RVV. It will be a feast.
