If he's all about winning, then he needs to launch a do or die attack........on the penultimate climb.
all about winning, do or die...more worn out phrases by forum hardmen...what does die mean in this context? pogi has sponsors, and a team that worked...trained...2nd place isn't first but its better than not on podium...i am trying to normalize these overly dramatic forum posts...its a bike race..not a fight for survival.

Great win today, regardless of the GC

And would you stop playing thought police in telling folks how they should analyse cycling. Clearly you have no clue about historical Tour journalism and its"convicts of the road" in French, Italian, Spanish and Dutch, for which the Grand Bouclé has always been presented as an epic fight for survival in the style of Greek tragedy and epic poetry. The very fame and legend of the Tour itself was built on such journalism, which captures the heroic nature of the event for the lay public. With good reason, because the dramatic suffering, triumphs and failures of its riders has always involved blood, sweat and tears and, unfortunately, even death occasionally. So other than "normalizing" the forum, perhaps you should read up on things first before attempting to give unsolicited lessons. Regarding "forum hardmen," do you even ride a bike?

Only a 12 seconds long 'attack' over the top of Azet before the final sprint. Weak. I would have thought that he would have preferred more changes in tempo on the last climb, attacking Vingegaard like Contador attacked Rasmussen on Peyresourde. He must have been on the limit and so after Azet only focussed on the stage win.

You obviously don't watch much sport. It's not dramatic at all. It's quite simple - all or nothing. Risk everything to win the race....If it comes off, it's a great story. If it fails and he blows up, so what? He tried....there's glory in a heroic failure. Far better than just accepting 2nd place.....

Ok, I was sure Bernal is going to dominate. And then I was sure Pogacar is going to dominate. And now we have Vingegaard who is even better. I also don't think 2020 or 2021 Pogacar would have had a chance. So lets see if he can turn this around in the years to come.

Yeah I was with you only I went:

2018: From now on, it's Dumo time
2019: I meant Bernal
2020 (part 1): Roglic is going to steal a few here
2020 (part 2): Nope. Pogacar is going to dominate the next decade
2022: How can anyone compete with this version of Vingegaard?

I really see only one area for Pogacar to improve - losing weight. He is not Vingegaard/prime-Froome/Rasmussen skinny. But then again, its probably not the best condition for all bodies.

Also this year's Tour has been the worse possible comibation for him as far as the weather goes. A 3 week constant heatwave.

Tbf, none of the first three ever convinced me. Dumoulin struggled to win any gt's, Bernal got super lucky in 2019 and my doubts about Roglic as a top tier gc contender are well recorded.

That said, I absolutely didn't think Pogacar would be dethroned this quickly. Especially as he was arguably at least as strong as last year.

Almeida may be the victim of this year's Tour and be forced to be domestique next year.

There's a great chance that it could happen. UAE need to do something for next season. They have to sign some capable domestiques for high mountains (im not seing anyone available right now) or they have to attach Almeida to Pogacar for Le Tour.

He might need a better coach!
He should go to INEOS. Thomas is 36, Bernal was seriously injured, the rest are not serious GC contenders. They had the best support and improvements in riders before JV transformed. UAE is fully living on the talent of individual riders. They never have this team-wow-moments, like JV or INEOS (up until the Tour also Bahrain). So that might be his best bet. Taking Millan with him shouldn't be a problem at all.

About Roglic I also was never sure. But Bernal, especially due to his age at the Tour win seemed like a very good bet to me.
